I've never purchased MTO or bespoke. Good to know.

Seems strange he wouldn't throw in the custom shoe trees at that price.

It would appear he doesn't have the "supply chain" to make it happen. Traditionally, the lastmaker is in house, and makes your custom last and stores it there. I guest then either that lastmaker or an outworker tree maker creates the tree based off that last.

A tiny bit sketchy that he has to send measurements to a factory to have the lasts made, but not a dealbreaker so long as he is accountable for the fit of the shoe

More than sketchy. Thanks for the info. Red flags for me.

Peter Feeney has previously been mentioned in this thread. Oddly, the critique then was that his prices were suspiciously low.

I'm not yet a customer, but I've met him and visited his atelier. He is very personable and hospitable, and appears to be providing employment to several local craftspeople. I am impressed with his having spent almost twenty years in the trade. Especially in Toronto, this can not have been easy.

There was a four part review of his work at The Hogtown Rake a decade ago. The only thing I really didn't like reading was regarding the gluing of the sole, but that apparently ceased by 2018 and the shoes are now hand welted.

I don't have a strong opinion on subcontracting the last masking. I read an interesting opinion on Reddit that one can get one's own last, such as from here, then loan the last to the shoemakers. The person claims that many British and Japanese bespoke makers are fine with this.

Just to be clear, I don't want to be read as casting any sort of aspersion. I chatted at least once with him and an assistant, and both were professional and courteous. I haven't pursued this much further for a variety of reasons including location and convenience, and the overall value proposition

I mentioned the price as I remember it, and the fact that shoe trees are not included, I was then prompted to speculate as to why

Has anyone been in his store lately? I noticed the sign had been taken down when I drove by a few months ago.

People that buy Porsche should critique Porsche all Chevy owners with nothing nice to say about a business that does make Bespoke shoes. Why bla bla bla when one is not going to shell $3k for shoes.. it is the ULTIMATE Toronto Thread for sure!!

Anyways...some decent deals on fragrances at Harry Rosen. 15% off, plus $50 kicker if over $500.

In lieu of the kicker, if you use the code RMN75, you get $75 dollars off.

Lastly, Rakuten is offering 15% cashback for Harry Rosen.

Lastly lastly, if you buy a $250 gift card, you get a $25 bonus gift card.

And absolute last:

I commissioned a Samuelsohn MTM a while back, and the result was great. Peak lapel flannel navy chalk stripe with single buttoning point (I was going for the Huntsman look). Will post pics once it's back from alterations.

I've tried MTM and MTO through various makers, and Samuelsohn has the most extensive customization options out of all of them. You can specify the width of the lapel and lower/raise the buttoning point by 1cm - no other major brand (that I know of) offers that. That's in addition to things like adding a ticket pocket, after-dinner split, etc...

But if you're going to try Samuelsohn, make sure you try on the different fits first to get a sense of what works best for your body type. Cosmo for example is close to a regular cut, whereas Madison is a bit more trim.

I ordered two from Meermin some years ago. I think an aspect to note and be aware of is that a shell cordovan belt will be probably made from three parts. I think some of the "character" that this material exhibits so well in shoes isn't as attractive in a belt.

Where do you enter coupon codes during checkout? Their UI seems off to me and I can’t see where to do this
