If they were visiting with any degree of regularity, we’d hear about it here: probably the largest contingent of enthusiasts. And while there is no common medium of communication these days, it’s much easier to get your ad out there.

I didn’t say “none.” I said few, and none of the big names. Let’s just take Italy for example. Who comes here besides Chiaia? I had heard of Pino Peluso coming back in the day but I’m not sure these days.
Are you actually trying to commission a bespoke suit and can’t find any takers or are you saying this just because? I think if you really wanted a bespoke suit you’d figure out how to get one made - visit NYC for example

I am actually trying to commission a bespoke suit. I currently have commissions in the works with Tim and with The Anthology, whom I have indeed met up with in NYC. I would like to try other options without having to spend the money to travel to NYC several times a year, which is expensive, time consuming, and environmentally wasteful. That is the source of my frustration.

Do you have anything insightful or constructive to say on this topic, or are you just going to do your usual thing where you you make a snide comment and then slink back to whatever hole you crawled out of?

On the subject of being constructive, though, a corollary to these complaints is: is anyone here genuinely interested in getting e.g., Sarti or Pastena to come to Toronto? These strike me as affordable options who might actually be willing to travel if there was significant interest.

Nothing snide here….i merely asked a question. You’ve already stated the facts about the matter - you will not be overwhelmed with enough options for your bespoke needs in Toronto which frustrates you.

So, what’s next? Can anything engine about this?

Thanks. In that case I apologize.

I do think tailors will visit in response to sufficient demand, unless I am missing something w/r/t Canada-specific visa issues, duties, etc. Hence my question asking if we can drum up enough demand from forum regulars to get some of the relatively affordable Italian or Asian options here.

Matt, I reckon if you're in the tax bracket for bespoke, travel expense wouldn't be a major concern. You brought up the main reason - Toronto's proximity to NYC which means you get access to the best with just a short flight away - which I genuinely suspect is why these professionals don't bother coming to the Six. :)

@othertravel seems to know whenever there's trunk shows coming to town

Hi!

For MTM, I try to follow who’s in town. For bespoke, most of the info I get is from here. If there is a specific maker we want to come to TO, we would probably need to line up a minimum set of clients. For example, if we mentioned to Hitchcock that there are ten interested clients in Toronto, then it may be worth his while to come up while he’s in New York. But honestly, it might be like herding cats to line up interested parties within a specific date range.

What's the consensus here, that the local tailors cannot deliver the desired quality, or are limited in house style, or are more expensive than the travelling Italians?

(Not meant to be a hostile question, just genuinely interested)
Re: locals, Tim and Sebastian do great work at a reasonable price, so no that isn't the issue. The issue is just that no other bespoke tailors in the city (as far as I know) do a soft Italian style, or a jacket with decent drape, so if that's what you're interested in, your options are limited. As I've said I'm grateful Tim and Sebastian are here; it would just be nice to try other things once in a while.

Huh I always thought Tim was after Italian style. How would you characterize his tailoring then?
