Ok Toronto friends, I'm opening up this offer again:

If anyone wants to send stuff to Dimar Shoe Repair in Guelph or to Ambros Shoe Repair in Saskatoon, you can hand them off to me, and I'll personally bring to Guelph, or your footwear can be shipped with mine to Saskatchewan. I have threads on both cobblers and the pics speak for themselves. Dimar also has a fairly robust profile via YouTube and Instagram.

My Christmas gift to the community - no charge for the shipping or transportation to Guelph. I'm going there/mailing stuff anyways.

A few of you have already messaged me privately but I figure a friendly reminder might bring in more people. Unfortunately my car can only take 1 passenger as my backseats are filled with car seats. So carpooling is not possible (one member is coming for the trip to Guelph).

You must contact the cobbler yourself to discuss the work done. You must arrange payment ahead of time. I assume the cobbler will then arrange to ship back to you directly.

I will be in Toronto a few days in December (I work at the Atrium, across from Eaton Centre) and also be at 130 Queen Street West for 2 days.

Otherwise, we can meet in Meadowvale area of Mississauga and you can drop off with me.

Message me if you're interested!

There's no foot traffic in downtown anymore, not to mention WFH, etc, kills menswear businesses like that.

Hi Folks,

I don't live in Toronto and don't know the store, but a few minutes on the internet gives many clues why they are closing shop.

First I went to their website...no inventory listed...no ability to purchase online. Website badly outdated.

Second I thought...maybe they are one of those businesses that updates social media because that is easier. Clicked link to Instagram...their last Instagram post was 54 weeks ago...

Third clicked their Twitter link...dead link...nothing there...

Hmmm...wonder why they can't sell enough product in the modern era???

Don't get me wrong - I am sad to see a Canadian retailer of great Italian and UK brands go belly up, but...it seems like they shot themselves in the foot by not trying hard enough (or at all) to use readily available modern sales tools, which may be the biggest part of their problem.

The owners are retiring.

Ahhh...that would explain why they were not interested in adapting to new ways of selling via online commerce. Just winding 'er down instead I guess.

That's the one. Silly me wasn't aware of the model name so when they said Chelsea, I instinctively thought it would be a chelsea boot LOL

I also wanted to add that the folks there were super nice and happy to help/answer any of my questions - which usually isn't the case at a lot of menswear store if you're someone like me who looks way younger than he actually is.

^Good score. They should last you a lifetime if properly taken care off. I hope you got the shoe trees also.

I'd send them to Jok at GTA Shoe Shine for a nice shine.

Yes they were pleasant to deal with, old school way of doing business I suppose.

Have you guys seen any deals on overcoats? Or thick pants or jeans?
Anything in particular you're looking for?
I can't comment on how good of a deal it would be, but i would suspect all stores will have some sort of BF / Cyber Monday deal going on

A quick search shows that Spier & Mackay and Harry Rosen both have sales right now

[Cheap Plug - if you're up for a project, i have an incredible Sulka coat that i'm going to be selling :) ]

Alright, so! Some of you already may know this, (those of you that follow me on instagram at least). But, on November the 19th, I handed my door key back to the shop whose basement I was working out of. So, with that, I suppose I'm no longer [technically] an apprentice. However, I still have a lot more to learn and I'm looking forward to the path ahead.

With that conclusive step done, I can finally post publicly that I'm moving on to better things. I'm constantly told that the standards on my own interpretation of bespoke tailoring are far above industry normalcy, but I always accepted those comments as a challenge. With that being said, I'm excited to share that I'm opening up a studio/workshop, where I can try to achieve my goals and trajectories and do all that is within my power of accomplishing those impossible standards.

I've been silent responding to inquiries because I had this step in the back of my head for some time now and I'm finally able to open my bookings back up with far less obstacles for me to hurdle.

With this move, however, there will be an increase in price as the prices at the last shop were so low I couldn’t make a living if I wanted to put all the extra handwork and time into what I felt a quality garment required.

I’m also planning on hosting an opening event sometime in the near future for anyone interested in checking out the new space. I haven’t settled on a date yet, but if you’re interested in attending, bother me about it. I was thinking some time between Christmas and the New Year… or at least before I fly out to Pitti in January.

Good luck with the new work! Definitely keep us posted. I'd be interested in seeing the space and your work if I'm in the country!
