I would have to agree with everyone else, I dislike the idea of going across the border and not declaring merchandise. Since I live at the border I just try to go across before I get too much stuff there that it would cost me to declare it. I take the bus and so its a $9 trip for me to go across and each package is $4 US to pick up. On a good day I can be over and back in Canada within an hour.

Edit: Its $4.50 CAD each way, so $9 total to go across and back.

This duty/tax dollar talk is depressing...

Anyone get anything sweet this week? Share some pics.

Here are a couple things I picked up recently in Paris (no duties, we were under the limit!)

Just about everywhere in Paris had sales. These were 50% off at John Lobb. I really wanted a pair of Darby II's but I couldn't quite justify it.

This picture captures the light better.

This is a silk/linen blend that has a eye-catching texture, and changes colour depending on the light. Love it. I just hope it's not too fragile.

    Up close and personal.

I also snuck a picture of upstairs at Charvet if anyone is interested. Apparently photo's aren't allowed though it wasn't rigidly enforced.

Very interested. Also, going to Paris next April - any suggestions, outside of the obvious? PM me.

No problem. Here is a well-known Paris shirtmaker fabrics

Here's a bit of what it looks like upstairs:

It's extremely impressive. The selection is off the rails. I particularly liked that you could see the actual fabric, not just some tiny swatch.

But that doesn't apply when you're taking shoes from Missisauga to Brampton, right? I need to get over there and check out those Burgundy Derbies! :)

As for Paris, I would suggest the following:

Jean-Manuel Moreau is a great place to visit, Nicholas Pinhero was fantastic to talk to, speaks multiple languages, really gets it. They are basically just a MTM shop, with just some PS, ties, and accessories that you can buy.
However, if you have time, they are basically the cheapest place in the world you can buy LVSN / Orazio Luciano. He was shocked when I told him how much 9 Hazelton sells LVSN RTW for.

Le Kimono is a great place for accessories apparently. I didn't get a chance to visit, but you can get Boivin ties for example, who makes for Charvet and others for less.

The C&J flagship at Place Magdelaine is worth visiting.

Also, Adriano Dirnelli posted an alert that Chez Stephane is liquidating Caruse-made Cifonelli RTW. I guess since Cifonelli is launching a new collection, they don't want the old stuff lingering around. It's probably worth calling to see what they have, as if I recall, it was fairly out of the way.

Coincidentally, I asked Dirnelli where to go in Paris and this was his reply.

The Edward Green and John Lobb stores are worth visiting too, in St Germain des Pres they are opposite from each other.

I also found the Slowear store in St Germain des Pres, which was an excellent experience. I got some fantastic Incotex shorts. There was lot's of interesting stuff there.

    here's what I have noticed.
When I cross the border and declare my purchases, be it clothing, shoes, guitars, and yes even a kayak from Cape Town, not once was I asked about origin or country of manufacture.
They just wanted a declared value and then taxed based upon that. In all my yrs never been assessed a duty rate at the border crossing, only HST.
    YMMV though

So these are the boots that got dinged, but looking at them, perhaps it was all worth it?

hey Gents, enough with the bad news about getting smacked with our "dutiful" obligations. Once you receive them they are DEF worth it.
Here are a couple prs I received recently, jumpers from skoak, got dinged, and caps from Steve at GF, scott free.

They have been given the spa treatment over at GTA. Thanks as always for the great service Jok!
