I don't think the problem is CBP (CrossBorderPickups). I recently had a package delivered from DHL with 71$ to pay, I returned the shoes due to a defect and the replacement came with a $151 duty receipt for the same item and price tag (I got the charges waived) I was genuinely surprised and I was wondering if another department took over at customs.

I was sent some items as a gift that came from a charity shop. They want to value used items at the retail cost and I want it valued at the charity shop price. With the crazy taxes and duties we’re talking 100s of dollars

Now that you mention, my shoes also had Dainite soles. (the $150 makes a bit of sense)
I have another new pair coming on friday, I will let you guys know how much they charge me.

Sounds like you claimed the actual purchase price and so they felt that they had no reason to ask for a receipt.

CBP must have a policy statement on this process somewhere.

When is the new USMCA deal going to be effective? It seems like the exemption doesn’t work with Canada Post only with private courier? WTH, Canada Post is going to lose lots of customers.

BTW, don’t mock the people who is trying to escape some duties on their purchases. With 31% additional tax on clothing, those greedy duckers at CBS probably drinking $300 whiskey off us. Please don’t say protect local manufacturers, there just aren’t enough manufacturers here worth to be protected

I would like to recommend Woolridge shoes. I went today and Ivor was very nice. He has a decent selection worth getting.

He is one of the "go to" shoe stores. He knows how to properly measure feet, and offers Goodyear welted shoes.

Another shoutout to Ivor at Woolridge. I went to visit him last week at suitforcourt’s suggestion and it was an excellent experience. Ivor was happy to take the extra time to make sure my shoes fit and to answer all my questions. He is very knowledgeable and he did not employ any up-sell tactics (he didn’t need to, I was perfectly capable of up-selling myself...). Highly recommended for anyone interested in fine English shoes. Thank you suitforcourt for the suggestion last week!

Ivor also told me he was in the process of trying to get Crockett & Jones shoes. Not a done deal but he is trying.

I couldn’t find his opening hours on his website; he is open weekdays until 6:00 PM.

Thanks for the update and review. Which shoes did you end up getting? Post the shoe porn!

Did you pick up your cheaney? I always think his pricing is a bit too high, had a quick chat with him before, seems to be a nice guy but didn't chat too much

No, I didn't make the time to chat and look. I have 38 pairs of dress shoes. I think it's enough.

Maybe down the road. Next week.

Just an update on CBP. I stopped by this weekend and chatted with the lady behind the counter. She said the border services have really been cracking down on them and for some items they are requesting transaction details. She did accept the picture of the receipt from my friend in the USA from charity shop to declare at 6$ and 12$ respectively but she told me in the future this service is for e commerce. YMMV on the declaration.

If we could get C&J or even any other more English shoemakers here, that'd be fantastic!

I need to get my 12 year old son a suit. Any recommendations on where to buy suits for kids in the GTA? There is one boy's tailored clothing shop in North York and one in Thornhill that I have checked out. I also looked at the offerings at the Bay. But, any specific recommendations?
