Has anyone in this thread been to the TIFF gala screenings and red carpet lounge?

I just found out my employer would like me to go (with clients) and I don't know what the dress code is. Website seems to be of little help. Hope it's not black tie, 'cause I don't have a tux...

My firm has a similar gala screening client event at TIFF - the dress code is Business (suit and tie) as it's on a Wednesday after the work day.

Well. I just hit the motherlode!

Is there any interest here for private label (Made in Italy I think) grenadine ties in multiple colours?

    - Navy
    - Lighter navy
    - Brown
    - Silver
    - Pink
    - Red/wine

    8cm width - 100% silk.

Price would be $49 CAD for one, or $95 for two.

That's basically $38US per tie, or $32US if you buy two.

They are from a high end store in Europe that doesn't ship to Canada.

Is there any other width option? 3.25' perhaps?

Nope. Same store also had Drake's grens, but they're 3' as well.

Look at the way people dress in the city. You'll stick out like a sore thumb if you show up in a tux. This is Toronto not Milan.

I'm interested in the grenadines... guys let's assume I have no good ties to work with and want to start from scratch. What are the best 2 to pick here?

I'm thinking navy as a staple since I have a few grey suits, and then for a second, could do silver for formal events, or brown for suit/tie events but not like weddings etc, or red but only if it's something toned down like a burgundy type color...

I'm feeling like navy and brown are day to day conservative, like for a job interview, and something like silver or wine/red/burgundy is flashy for a wedding. Those are my primary needs, and I do maybe one of each a year so I can pretty much scrap my pile of random ties and just have a few good ones. So I'm leaning towards navy and silver. Thoughts?

Also keep in mind they have two shades of blue: one is a navy, and the other is a lighter navy/dark blue.

    Here's a close up of the red/wine:

Hahaha - that would be quite the sight! Unfortunately, I'm not at the Partner level yet in order for me to pull that off yet, people still love pulling out my pocket squares at my place....

And in other news...I just found that they have Corneliani-made suits for $350 and SCs for $210 (all on clearance).

I know, but sometimes my bosses go to legit black tie events. I've seen them wear tuxes in the elevator, so I know it happens sometimes...
