Hmm. Does it have fringe on both ends, Moo?

I had forgotten how awesome this thread was... thank-you for the necrobump.

And I had been trying to forget.

Like I mentioned earlier in my response to another poster, I've done some research on this and found that regular, symmetrical patterns and borders do appear on vintage rugs. My understanding is that the borders are indeed from outside influence, but that influence itself is quite old. You see antique rugs a hundred years old or so with borders.

Boarders are seen on all the oldest rugs.
The oldest complete rug (warp and weft with supplemental weft = pile) is 2500 years old and is in the Hermitage.

Thanks. I agree on the prices. I'm just thinking of this for our kid's room: https://www.rugvista.com/carpet/gabbeh-loom?artno=CVD15067
Not a huge investment in case it turns out bad. Not authentic, but seems nice enough to play on.

The alternative would be something from thenao.com, as recommended by JPHardy. Or maybe something from a local shop.

Floorplanrugs.com has much more authentic rugs, and prices are good. I like a lot of their traditional rugs, but my wife wants more simple ones.

Did you ever end up trying out a rug from them? Any thoughts?

Some of the other colors are even cheaper. Those prices seem unsustainable...but tempting
