I didn't bother looking to see if such a thread already exists, but I'm too lazy and I assume if it did, it would be somewhere on the front page. So, here it is: a thread for posting pictures of rugs you like and discussing them.

Now, for some gratuitous, self-interested content:

914508

914510

914511

This is a genuine 25 to 30-year-old Beni Ourain. All undyed wool (both warp and weft). No damage or stains. Fringes are in excellent shape. The size is approximately 6 x 9 feet (or 180 x 280cm, for the Europeans out there).

At least, that is what the dealer tells me.

For the moment, let us assume that everything I'm told is correct. What can you tell about the quality of the rug and how would you value it? What other information would need to get a good handle on the price?

Okay, now, for you experts: is there anything about the rug that strikes you as suspicious?

that looks mint! How much?

I'm in the market for a hand-knotted rug myself and it's been an uphill battle to say the least.

Problem is, I need an 8 X 10 and the cost can get get pretty crazy..........the ones I like are rarely under $4K.

Any advice on where to get any deals on rugs??

Well, "how much? is really the key question . . .

How much do you think?

We may or may not have just bought this thing and are interested to know if we got a good price.

Anybody else have any sense of the value?

I have a few others now, too.
These are my rugs. I remember where most of them came from.

This came from Iraq. Its at the foot of my bed. It is also ridiculously soft. Turkmen prayer rug.

It is about five feet long. What is most interesting about it is the tassels (I know nothing about rugs) at the end have this little bit of color woven into it which the camera didn't pick up. It looks real nice IRL. Here is the string...

This one is from Turkey. It is about is a little shorter than my bookcase which is standard bookcase size? maybe two feet long. The red is much darker and deeper, almost a purple-y red.

My mom got this for me in Nepal when I was a kid. That is the Tibetan sign for welcome on the tent. She's pretty sure she knows who wove the rug. Yeah, sorry I didn't vacuum it.
P1060424.jpg
A Persian rug purchased in Doha. The biggest one by far. Nearly as long as my bed and three and a halfish feet wide.
