Nearly four million families have 'Big Brother' microchips fitted in their bins. A massive expansion of the 'spies in the bin' technology has taken place by stealth in preparation for a shake-up in rubbish collections.
A survey shows one in seven councils has introduced the chips - affecting 3.7million households.
It was previously thought only around 250,000 families were affected - meaning many homeowners probably have no idea their wheeliebin contains the chip.

nfortunately for June Turnbull, council officials say she also needs a few other accessories - namely, three warning signs, a "lookout" and a fluorescent safety jacket - before she so much as pulls another weed.
The 79-year-old, whose voluntary work on the public flowerbed has produced a much-admired blaze of colour, has been told she poses a health and safety risk.
Council officials have ordered her to stay away from the flowers until she complies with their safety regulations.

Teachers are branding thousands of children racist or homophobic following playground squabbles.
More than 20,000 pupils aged 11 or younger were last year put on record for so-called hate crimes such as using the word ‘gaylord’.
Some of them are even from nursery schools where children are no older than three.
