Finally, Bond is back. A small group, of which I am a member, attended a private screening of Casino Royale last night. Years of faithful patience have paid off. This film is the best since Goldfinger.

The character's just-below-the-surface menace is there in abundance. Gone is the over-the-top campiness. Special effects are better than ever. This is especially true of the early scene at a construction site. I almost needed a seat belt for that one.

I don't wish to trash any icons. However, Daniel Craig is (to me) more believable than Sean Connery in the role. I am in a distinct minority to utter this, but if Timothy Dalton had the benefit of this writing and directing, he and Craig would vie in my mind for the most believable of the Bonds. I always felt that the twinkle in Connery's eye was the give away that he was playing a comedic role rather than the subtle satire. Look into Craig's eyes and maybe you will notice what I mean.

Just go see the film. Forget about cinematic art, I went to be entertained. Mission accomplished! Likely, you will enjoy it also.

I think the Roger Moore movies were very entertaining....albeit they were cartoon-y, but that's their appeal for me. Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, Octopussy, View to A Kill, Live and Let Die....all great movies, just can't take them seriously.

Daniel Craig looks like he's gonna be a great realistic Bond...Moore was great as a Bond-spoof, even tho the only spoof was the original Casino Royale.

I like the somewhat flamboyant clothing that Moore wore. Indeed, the black gangsters at that Filet of Soul had great clothes.

Craig nails it. He's one tough MF. Ironically enough, his funniest lines are when he is getting tortured by gettin whipped in the nads by a rope.

Wow. What a hell of a ride.

When a film passes the two hour mark, chances are I've begun to lose interest. Not in this case. Even though my bladder was near bursting, I refused to leave my seat. The movie was fantastic!

Bond was the perfect mix of cold-blooded assassin and charming super spy. I honestly felt like he could beat the living **** out of anyone and walk away saying "I need a drink". Not the case with the other Bonds. It was just so real...not the campy, jet-pack using Bonds of yore.

I'm 100% convinced that Craig is the real Bond. I walked out of that movie with one word on my lips: "Badass". That's what Bond was intended to be, and it's how he played his cards (pun intended) in Casino Royale. A+!

Saw it today and thoroughly enjoyed the film.

Despite the fact that I admit to enjoying practically every version of Bond, including Moore and Lazenby, I feel that Craig's Bond comes the closest since Connery to the grittiness of the Ian Fleming novels that I devoured as a child.

I have to agree with Full Canvas - I do feel that Dalton wanted to play Bond in this way, but the producers and writers put him into vehicles better suited for Moore or Brosnan (You can see this in The Living Daylights. A film that initially shows some promise, but quickly falls apart when Wayne Newton shows up

I saw it at the midnight showing as well. I loved it. I have two questions though: 1. Will Bond have to kill someone at the beginning in every movie to start the titles?

2. What tailor made up a dinner suit and two shirts that fit him perfectly within a day... much less on the guesstimates of a woman sizing him up?

I've never actually sat through an entire Bond movie, never saw what the fascination was really.

I'm curious though...probably a stupid question but, is James Bond/007 one character? I mean, is the bond in this Casino Royale the same exact person as the Bond that Connery, Brosnan, etc played?

Or is 007 a designation for the assassin or spy or whatever it is...like one Bond is retired or killed, so another takes over....kind of like a Dread Pirate Roberts kind of deal?

I hope to see it Saturday. How crowded were the theaters? Were the shows sold out? I'm hoping it does very well.

I went to an afternoon showing in Georgetown and the theater was packed.

My theater was packed. Can't believe it was 2+ hours long, as I thought it was short when I was watching it.

Craig is a great Bond. Of the Connery mold but not an imitator in any way.

I went to see it last night. Frankly, I thought it one of the worst Bond movies. Although there was a menacing, reckless quality of Bond we didn't see before. However, there was no gadgets, no big plots, no real twists, and the villain's end was too plain. Eva Green, as Bond girl, was beautiful. But they didn't give her much to do. There was too much pointless breaking of ****, for the sake of breaking ****. Also, the theater I went to took the liberty to crank up the volume way too loud. My ears hurt whenever there were loud explosions. Overall, this was the worst Bond I've ever seen. And Craig is one ugly Bond!

I think he plays a really good Bond, but I just don't think he is good looking enough to pull it off. At the beginning, when he is in the water in his bathing suit looking at the Arab girl, I was just thinking, how is she gonna go for that guy??
