I haven't binged on an album as hard as this one since Deafheaven's Sunbather. Nothing about it is good on paper - the composition is boring or even trite, the sounds are semi-generic industrial, the lyrics are outright bad (though I think they're going for kitsch)...but I'm about 30 spins in and still loving it.

I hadn't heard of HEALTH before this one. When I took a quick dive into their previous discography, none of it really stuck with me, though I'm going to try again. But Slaves of Fear hits the spot for me perfectly. It's also a killer workout album.

(FWIW: Fav tracks on the album are NC-17, Black Static, God Botherer, the title track and Feel Nothing, in that order.)

Ex Hex have a new album coming up and having been putting out a bunch of singles. This feels like a lost Heart track in the best way.

You may already know his story. Curtis Mayfield suffered a freak accident on stage and lived his last 9 years paralyzed from the neck down. Wrote and made this album during that time laying flat on his back. Recording one line at a time due to his lung capacity. Beautiful, profound song from the album New World Order.
