I know he's from a metal band (and has the looks) and doing neofolk but the stuff I heard sorta works in that Leonard Cohen, Nick Cave dark crooner style. I really like Tear it apart from The Lone Descent but I wanna give the whole album a full listen. I'm not into most neofolk stuff that @Nyarlathotep and you like (Current 93, Death in June etc) but then I'm not sure I've given the genre a chance as the neonazi stuff is sort of a turnoff (I only have enough energy for one nazi in my music collection and Varg has taken the spot). :Of the wand and the moon: is more mystical and poetic and it works for me.

Feel free to post some good neofolk btw.

Here's some folk(se) stuff I like:

I fully understand your neofolk genre apprehension, there is a lot of right-wing trash produced under that umbrella.

As for recommendations,

In Gowan Ring - nazi free, forest /hippie/psych-folk
The first couple of albums are especially great (not too far away from a more psychedelic Nick Drake)

Current 93 - nazi free, incredibly poetic, weird, gnostic revelations, mostly profound. There are 5-10 entire albums that I love. The vocal style is definitely less croony and melodic than some others though, borderline spoken word. Might take some getting used to, but perfect to me.

Some classic 10/10 albums in the folk style

Beautiful, intimate piano-based album

I like my headphones but some tracks might need a little more presentation.

I know I'm late as **** but just wanted to comment on this because I love this record. I find that the Children of God song in isolation doesn't work for me much but as a finisher to the album it works very well.

The live album Feel Good Now is amazing and is basically just Children of God live, but the songs are way different. I prefer the Children of God track on that one over the album version.
