Don't why I have taken a liking to LDR since I'm a rocker at heart and have little afffinity for pop. Maybe because she's hated by so many...
Dedicated to the sweetest damsel ever....TBC is my favorite band outside of the psychedelic- era...
Any Mogwai fans?
I can't stop coming back to Pitchfork's stream of the new Chelsea Wolfe album
Here's a taste:
in honor of the weeknd's new album leaking on sat and the general theme of the weekend: lil wayne feat. the weeknd - I'm good (should be weeknd, feat lil wayne, really)
The Weeknd's album was pretty disappointing. He must really be milking the "tortured genius" role, because he even manages to make intended baby-making songs depressing. "I'm good" was better than a majority of the album. Wayne's mixtape was garbage.
I'm liking The Weeknd's album.
anyway this video is sick:
Poor woman has just revealed she is suffering from Parkinson's Disease... amazing voice, great talent, who cares if she was never really cool? She sang on some of Neil Young's best work too and also Paul Simon's Graceland...
I don't disagree with any of that, though with a few caveats:
(1) wayne's mixtapes are invariably 90% shit, with a handful of nicely produced tracks or solid verses. value is in finding the good stuff (like "I'm good", I'd say)
(2) I'm holding out judgement on kiss land until I give it a few more listens. it's different than his other stuff, but I'd rather not yield to the urge to dismiss it because it's not what I'd hoped for or expected. a couple of the tracks he'd released previously are solid/interesting production-wise (kiss land, belong to the world), and the lyrics aren't bad or trivial. further, some of my current favorites took a while to 'age' for me ('xo / the host' did nothing for me initially, and was something of an anthem for me a while back).
(2a) really no idea what the wanderlust remix was about aside from giving pharrell an opportunity to get on the album. it's bland and unmistakenly n.e.r.d. production-wise, which despite my real desire to like, I can never get into.
