I thought the Killer Mike record was pretty good. Some really cool tracks. I've not liked anything i've heard from Freddie since str8 killa no filla...., he seems to sound different. Even then i think that record is pretty mixed. When it's good it's up there in Illmatic territory for me (crushin' feelings, personal og, the ghetto) but there's some really bad stuff on there too. When he hits it it's pretty woaahh though.

Been playing Tuxedo's free EP nonstop. They're rumored to be Mayer Hawthorne and Jake One if that matters to you. Funky goodness that JT was searching for with his album.

i'll repharse i didn't really like XXX. it was too try hard (to be underground anti-commercial). material got repetitive (sex and drugs basically). his voice is annoying and his rhymes dont make up for it

XXX wasn't trying to be anti-anything, Danny's just an eccentric dude. And incredible at rapping.

well maybe not the entirety of the album, but there was a common thread through a lot of his songs about commercial rap.

is there another danny brown album that you feel is better?

    that's one confused criticism.

which other songs talk about "commercial" rap beside Radio Song? and really, he couldn't tackle that subject any better IMO. I hate that whole "underground vs mainstream" argument and he managed to not come off corny.

i thought he came off as corny on radio song. also commercial and sex and drugs aren't mutually exclusive. i dont see how its confused.

I've been listening to a lot of Iceage lately and really digging it. Great stuff and am kind of excited they're coming to Atlanta in June, but Jesus Christ these kids are fucking stupid.

Jessie Ware "wildest moments remix" feat. A$AP Rocky released today. DJ Finesse's hour long mix of B.I.G. lyrics over DJ Premier (who co-signed the project) beats was pretty disappointing. Also, Chris Brown's "fine China" premiered today (average). It seems he's back with his old writers/production team for this next album. He also made the radio show rounds this past week for promotion, delivering some not-off-the-top freestyles over Drake beats. Would've been a good opportunity for more shots fired (see R.I.P. remix), but he didn't. Usher's back in the studio with Jermaine Dupris and Young Jeezy for his next album. Ryan McDermott (G.O.O.D. music) released a song, which was supposed to be on Cruel Winter featuring Philip Bailey of Earth Wind & Fire fame. It's better than expected.

This has been your "mainstream" rap/r&b music highlights from the weekend/today, brought to you by yours truly.

Seeing Ryan Leslie in SF tomorrow.

This is probably going to get some hate but I've really been digging Grimes.

I've also been rediscovering some northern soul and skinhead reggae track that I used to listed to.
