Having said that, the other tips there are pretty solid. I couldn't find if they specified, but the shirt cuffs should not be double but rather single.

I would guess that this because they are giving advice for university events, and following the spirit of the dress code rather than the letter (they did suggest reading on and choosing a better shirt).

I first wore white tie some 8 years ago as a student and I did buy proper shirt. I believe 99% of everyone I've ever seen in white tie wore the correct shirt. White tie shirts of decent quality cost like 60€ in Sweden and we do get paid by the state to study so
