I think that was just the night the baby was born (his attire seems reasonable for that, tbh). Today was the family's first public appearance with the baby and he seems just as well dressed as the other examples.

Yes, even though I was deliberately overstating my case (of a decline in standards), I am with @Thomson on this. Neither of the 'young' princes look regal to me. I heard the BBC reporter describe the way this birth was handled as very 'modern' - a word used many times in the report...To the general public, probably.
Personally I find him to be averagely well dressed, at best. I am no monarchist by any stretch of the imagination but I‘d prefer it if the younger generation of the royal family looked more regal. But it doesn’t matter much, at some stage they will all be a bunch of actresses and actors and their off-spring. Won’t be so easy to justify royal status then though.
I agree, I wish he dressed more regally, just because it would be nice to see (from a purely visual standpoint). But I also think the Royal family's increasingly dressed down norms is part of a bigger and more important process of increasing liberal norms. The same attitude that allows him to shed century-old Royal dress is the same attitude that allows him to marry Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.
I wondered about the suit when I first saw the picture.
In the top pic, I see a lot of the gentleman on the left in Prince William.Or how to welcome a new Royal Baby:
