Is this via the NMWA crew?

Yes, Sartoria Carrara via No Man Walks Alone…..I've Done two MTM sport coats with them, last time I visited, got measured for Carrara trousers. Then came the need for a tux, so Greg and I hopped on a zoom call to go over details (fabric, style (DB shawl), and other details) about eight weeks later, this gorgeous piece showed up at my door.

Out of curiosity, how (within the bounds of MTM, of course) extensive is their MTM program?

Do you mean options for Black Tie? Or just I general?

For black tie, they offered up single or double breasted, shawl or peak lapels and multiple options for lapel facings.

If you mean in general, they have a single and double breasted style that can be a suit or sport coat. TonS of fabric options.

I believe they now have at least one (maybe more? ) topcoat/overcoat styles available through MTM.

I forgot to mention, they also have an MTM program for trousers with Rota....

DB shawl is such a badass look!

Thanks, I am looking forward to wearing it.

Getting back to black tie, here is my full rig:

Midnight DB Shawl as described above
Drakes formal shirt
J Muser Grosgrain bowtie
Samuel Gassmann MOP studs
Vintage MOP cufflinks
Belgian Shoes black suede slip on

I enjoy the (relatively) subdued nature of the Jolly Roger on these. I’ll dig these.

My new Kiton tux came in! But the luster on the lapels is more muted than I expected…

The Kiton is on the left. My older RLBL is on the right. The RLBL has a matching tie and you can see how striking the satin lapel is.

curious: if I wanted a new black tie, would I still go with Satin silk or is Barathea a better option for the more muted luster and shine?

Barathea, I'd wear that with the RL coat too.

You could also look into different size and shaping options to see what really suits your face shape and preference.

The whole thing, in my mind, should be muted.

The point is drawing attention to your face, the rest should be uniform unless it's some special occasion.

That's why I'd also advise against the shoes above without a much stronger 'counterweight' up top. The eyes should go to the face, not linger at your feet (/lapels/tie)
