Hard to capture on camera but the shantung facings are natty

Wearing a green brocade bow tie–clearly any pretense of respect for the rules has gone completely out the window. The tie is by Le Noeud Papillon.

I know it’s tricky to tell from the photo - but the facing looks like dupioni rather than Shantung?
Possibly. The silk was sold as shantung but it does look more dupioni than shantung. Regardless the subtle slubby effect I wanted is there and it turned out very well. Looks like a vintage matte satin from afar

...and the silk faced turn back cuffs were a good call in hindsight
Good to hear it worked out the way intended!

Interestingly, I spotted a dinner suit in The Armoury Landmark which was made of black dupioni with black grosgrain. The dupioni a bit matte (with subtle slub and slight sheen) works well with the grosgrain as well.

They do add a nice added flourish to the garment. It's also reassuring that you think so as I'm having a dinner jacket made with faced gauntlet cuffs, albeit in velvet.

Why is it that bow ties and lapel facings can be either grosgrain or satin, but the bows on opera pumps are always grosgrain?

I noticed that, too, when I was searching for pumps. I guess maybe because satin bows wouldn‘t have enough contrast to the patent leather?
