1. Cream Jacket any configuration with self facing lapel
2. Petrol, Mid, or Sky blue velvet. Just light enough to provide contrast
3. Petrol, mid, or sky blue linen or tropical shawl dinner jacket with self facing lapel
4. Burma colored dinner jacket with self facing lapel. Any configuration
Would be curious to see visuals (if you have any) of 2 & 3.

1 & 4 I fully agree with, and think I'm trying to talk myself into versatility where it probably needn't exist.

Many of the sources I've found indicate that the jacket worn in the film did not have silk facing. See, for instance:

I wore one to my own wedding. No special facings on it.

Midnight and navy combined with sky blue works perfectly. Think about the UNC color combo.

Petrol/Steel blue will work as well. The Petrol is more of a SKY blue with a grey tone to it.

Mid Blue is good as long as there is enough contrast with midnight.

Dumb question that I haven’t seen addressed. I’m going to commission by fourth DJ. This will be a velvet smoking style. Should the pents also be velvet or can I use traditional barathea?

Traditional tuxedo trousers are by far the most common, but Douglas Fairbanks had this all-velvet dinner suit made in 1933.

I would go for barathea because velvet is not recommendable for trousers, as it would wear out sooner than the jacket.

Go velvet! It will be so slick! I assume you already have barathea trousers you can cycle through

Jackets and pents are matched up. When I wear one I wear the other thus minimizing differences in shade due to use or cleaning. Thus whatever pents I choose will live with the velvet DJ. Unless I do two pairs …. huh.

1 pair velvet the other barathea? Unless you are performing as a crooner every night I doubt the wear and tear factor is gonna affect the velvet.
