i was going to wait until it was finished to show my cummerbund experiment, but i could use some suggestions.
i thought i'd try out the historic cummerbund that was rather excellently culturally misappropriated from the persians (by way of colonial british india), before it became the accessory it is today.
(so basically i bought i really long length of doupion silk, hemmed it and wrapped it around me five times.)
however, i'm stuck on how to finish the ends. i tapered them for now, but this was a mistake and looks awful. i suppose it wouldn't matter if i just shortened the ends and tucked them in, but i like the idea of having them dangle from underneath my jacket. (counterpoint - that may seem as if i'm trying to look like a pirate). tasselling the ends like a scarf feels weird and may look like i've just nicked some of my grandmother's soft furnishings.
i'm not trying to create some kind of historical costume by any means; i just thought it might be a little bit interesting (and would keep me warmer, as i do tend to run cold).
so, any ideas? anyone sitting on some good pictures of how these used to be made or worn? anyone care to berate me on my idiotic project? anyone come across someone else pretentious enough to have worn something like this before?
