Sorry, posting from my phone. Is Mr. Bentley Harrington III doing weird things again?

If you watch the first 15 minutes of "The Razor's Edge", a film made in 1946, you will see some people wearing white trousers with dinner jackets. Maybe this is where Ralph Lauren got the idea of white trousers with dinner jackets......

I would do it, but I do lots of eyebrow raising stuff.

I love wearing white or cream trousers with my boating blazers in summer.

I would say the only problem is that they don't extend the rise of the pants, like a black one does. I probably wouldn't do it, but I'm 5'7". I think it can work with an ivory jacket, but it would shorten you more than with a bock cummerbund. I wouldn't add one to a Black dinner suit, though I see ivory a lot with white tie in period TV shows. no idea if that's accurate.

If you follow the and guidelines fit when to wear, as for a white DJ, I think it's pretty nice, actually. It's make sure the fit, and the jacket details, are spot on. I would be inclined towards a matching ivory waistcoat. I think it would look silly with a cummerbund of either black, or ivory, unless, maybe, you had the cummerbund made of the same ivory material as the pants. Ivory satin would just look cheap and inelegant, and black would be really visible, and notably lower your waist visually.

Well, I am now the proud owner of two very old ones.

Will see how they look when they get here.

At 6'3" I don't think I have to worry about looking short.

Hopefully they had tall people in 1903 or this waistcoat isn't gonna make it to the top of my pants!

Pics cross-posted from the nSuited thread. [IMG]

First time wearing a tux since high school prom. I attended a black-tie charity gala tonight and was actually surprised by the number of guys who bothered to wear formal wear. At least 80% had tuxes or dinner jackets. Maybe 10% of the guys in formal wear had peak lapels or shawl collar. Didn't see a single double-breasted number, but surprisingly about 5 shawl collars. The only rules I consciously broke out of sheer laziness were the lack of waist covering and the shoes (black captoes instead of patent leather or pumps). My bow tie skills needs some serious work.
