I was, as well. My wife and I went to Keswick Hall near Charlottesville, Virginia.; there were only three other guys there in black tie and just a few more in suits.

^ The white Marcella and wing collar really bump the elegance factor of a dinner suit. Nicely done!

Please expound on this. Do you mean socks or actually hose?

I assume you mean socks vs. pantyhose and the answer to that is socks but hose seems to be what people call all silk socks.

These in particular are the ones I wore:

I think he may mean knee-high silk socks; at least, that is what my husband wears with white and black tie. The word hosiery, of which hose is a derivative, serves as an umbrella term for all garments that are worn directly on the legs and feet.

However, as there are men who seem to have taken a fancy to legwear that is usually reserved for us ladies, only Sam H can clarify his comment with absolute certainty.

Last day of Dutch auction sale at Le Noeud Papillon. Now 75% off on all bow ties, time to get some of their fantastic bow ties. I got two for less than $100, including shipping.

Awesome! I picked up a white tie, black tie, and two squares for $130. Thanks for the heads up!

I just bought another dinner jacket. Someone is going to have to stage an intervention or I am going to have to get a job as a maitre d'.

Otherwise I'll start wearing them to the gym instead of track jackets (after 6pm of course).

Unfortunately, the day may come when a bathing suit and surfboard is more correct that long trousers.

I think Fassbender wins - his pants were a little long for my taste, but not beyond the realm of decency.

I liked Fassbender's except for pants length as well. Bradley Cooper looked great in his tux. Adding a pocket square will make it better though.

Cooper was, I think, wearing derbies, not Oxfords, so deduction for that. Plus, I think Cooper's jacket was too small, but only a smidge - much better than most of what you see this days. Actually, on the whole, the jackets fit better than they we usually see. Still mostly too tight, but not as badly as has been the trend.

I couldn't make out the details of the shoes. As far as the jacket being too small, I don't see much pulling on the photo that I've seen. Maybe it's just his physique that's making the jacket small?

There was minor pulling at the button - if he was an ordinary guy, I wouldn't even mention it. But, if I had those kind of resources, I wouldn't wear things that don't fit perfectly. If his physique makes the jacket small, the jacket is the wrong shape for his physique.
