The Spring '07 Menswear Shows: You Like?

A few impressions on clicking through pictures of the defiles of the Spring '07 menswear presentations in Milan:

-- Steel blue, steel grey and medium grey are the big colors. Shoes match the suits in these colors, which, in the pictures, looks totally great.
-- Pants are a little baggier with more voluminous pleats.
-- But not Gucci, which is holding high the banner of super slim cuts, short jackets and updated mod styles.
-- Best collection is Alexander McQueen. The cuts of the suits, the quality and color of the fabrics and the imaginativeness of the looks are all inspiring. Start saving now.
-- Burberry Prorsum is really great also.
-- Biggest disappointment: Raf Simons for Jil Sander. Tasteful and easy to wear, but very plain and safe and it suffers by comparison to McQueen and Burberry Prosum. It's just straight black pants, solid blue or white button down shirts and square t-shirts.

My favorite was McQueen as well. Overall I didn't really like most of it. Everything seemed very loose and baggy fitting.

Mc Queen is another "Gucci" line and it really shows. This runway was so conspicuously "american market share" oriented: tassel loafers, plaid wtf??? !luc

McQueen has some nice 30s looks in there. In particular pictures 17-20 or so. As is usual, I couldn't pull off this stuff with my short and wide body, but I wish I could.

Burberry Prosum at least has some color in it though I'm not terribly awed by their collection.

The others that I looked at were just too drab. I need to see more color.

prada dont own jil sander any more they sold it a few months back i think to the co. that own primark or somw other english discount clothes shop!

I can't remember a look I liked that Menkes featured in the IHT sections.

It seems a rehash of the '80s-'90s Italian Utilitarian look that Miuccia Prada popularized.

I agree. Gucci had the most interesting show, imo. I like the direction Giannini is taking the men's line, esp in the suitings. It almost reminds me of Slimane's first couple lines for DH, which is rumored that he might be out over there.
