I would like to pose a question or moreso a debate.

Is a shell cordovan less suitable for suits. I have read and understand what has been asserted on both sides of the debate but let me be more specific:

is there anything about a shell dress balmoral that would make it less suitable for business suits than the same shoe in calf?

Also, have you any concern that the ripple effect of cordovan degrades the impression of a dress shoe more than creases in calf?

    Thanks in advance

In time the shell ripples may grow deeper or more pronounced if your gait is springy or the shoe trees too low. These harmonica-like ripples are more visible than regular calf creases, making the pair less smart. Perhaps this is why shell has never been as popular suit garb among grandees.

I would say no. You'd have to be really into men's shoes to even notice. And 99.999% of the population is not. I have clients who wear black Cordovan shoes with a business suit. My business partner has a pair of G&G "Oxford" in black shell, you'd have to be a real freak to tell the difference from black calf.

thanks Mike. they turned out great i think. the shell and eyelets are great but I really enjoy their craftsmanship of the outsole and welt. outstanding work really. and big thumbs up to the guys for making the call. initially we were thinking commando and storm welt, but settled with this design of 360 flat welt on dainite.

best part, they finished 3-4 weeks sooner than expected! im poor, just in time for the holidays!
