Totally normal probably just the infamous blooming of shell. Should go away with some brushing, if not Reno or VSC.

So I received my burgundy shell belt from BB. So far I’m satisfied with the quality but have no idea who made them. Based on the joints and pictures below, can you tell?

love the patina of the Harlechs! Safe to assume you use only conditioner and/or neutral shell creme and not the pigmented shell creme, to get this patina over time?
Thanks! Only a few wears on these so far, so what you are seeing is just starting to patinate. Planning on VSC only though.

Wow, surprised the patina is setting in this nicely, this soon. Look forward to seeing how they evolve

It was my understanding that these are just pores in the shell. It's neither common nor uncommon, at least in my personal experience. I have one or two pairs that have some of that.

Thank you for your answers! The spots are a bit elevated and can be felt by hand! Bloom or pores?

I’ve read that, sometimes, when shell gets wet it will form welts where the water drops sat. The bloom shouldn’t cause elevation.

Use the back of a spoon over the welt and brush. It should take care of it.

I’ve read about that too, but wouldn’t that be strange as they are right out of the box?
Thanks for the tip, shall try that!

I missed the part of being right out of the box.

Give it a try. Maybe just use your thumb first and then brush. See what happens.

How do you feel about spending money on non-essential goods during the Covid-19 crisis?

  • I don't want to spend money at a time of economic uncertainty, even if I could afford it.

  • I feel compelled to spend to help small businesses that are struggling.

  • I reduced my budget for non-essential goods and I'm not spending at the moment.

  • Not much has changed for me and I'm still buying stuff I can't afford.
