Must try that too, I have a pair of navy shell Yanko oxfords which I never wear because of the water spots that won't go away.

    It worked!

    Before pics:

    Here's what I did:

    1) used a soaking wet cloth to wet the shoes. Strangely the cordovan soaked up the water like a sponge which made it swell and very rough and dull. Scared the living daylights out of me ;-)

    2) let them dry and conditioned them with Bick4. The original luster came back a bit.

    3) let them dry again and conditioned them with Saphir cordovan cream

    4) again let them dry and polished them with a horsehair brush and a horsehair polishing glove.

The results: no more water stains!

Wow they look great, really like new!

As you mentioned the water process seems scary and totally counterintuitive, after all the water is what caused the problem in the first place. But just like they say fight fire with fire you fight water spots on shell with water.

Your process is more elaborate than mien, more like how I was when I first started. Like polishing the more you do it you find your style that works. Since I wear shell everyday I had to find the fastest way for regular water spot maintenance but I like your style for a more through every so often maintenance, excellent!

@Schweino what we have shown is that you can wear your shell and enjoy it without the worry of a few drops of water.

Thank you Sir. Vintage Hanover LB Shepherd saddle shoes style #2100, I believe. A NOS pair I luckily stumbled upon, on eBay.

I wore this pair a lot more than expected last winter. Still some faint water spots, but cleaned up and ready for fall.

Agree with others, thank you for sharing.
I've seen this mentioned in more speculative fashion but your post will come in handy someday. :)

    Beautiful boots, what are they?
