Shell stretches much more than calf with time. Ask any experienced manufacture.

Hmmm...this is the first I've heard of this. Not a manufacturer, but LeatherSoul told me the precise opposite. Which manufacturers have you heard this from?

That's good to know, although with the MTO yo charge, Bonafe shell is well out of my price threshold. But who knows. I once said the same thing about $330 AEs, and look where I am now. :uhoh:

It's the Camberley dubmonk boot, which is all kinds of badass. I would join, but I already have navy shell and navy suede. Only so many uses for blue shoes...

Oh yeah, also I can't join because I would need a G width and CJ only allows standard widths for GMTO :fu:

Haha I know the feeling. My first gyw purchase was AE calf Park Aves and I felt crazy for spending the money. I'm just hoping EGs don't ever start to look reasonable. Pretty happy around the Alden price range though.

Good luck with that. It's a nice fantasy...

José Albadalejo (Carmina) and Enrile. That is my experience too with 5 paírs.

IMO shell will run larger. I have experienced everything from about a quarter of a size to more then a half. Then since the insole stays the same but the shoe can accommodate a larger volume it's also not quite the same as if you would actually go up in size since that also effects the size of the insole both in length and width.

.....

Thanks for sharing your experience. I've been thinking of picking up a pair of shell Leeds but my Daltons are a hair snug so I'm debating whether or not I should size up .5 from them.

Couldn't agree more. Do they ever offer shell in G?

I don't doubt your personal experience but I've found shell to not stretch very much at all, myself. To be fair I've never owned the same shoe in calf and shell, so I haven't made a direct comparison.

The actual shell might stretch as much or more then calf but there is multiple factors to consider. For both it's basically stretch by volume / width we are talking about. Never length. Also you have various other factors for example leatherboard or celastic at the toe or heel where the stretch will be a factor of the combination of leather, stiffener and lining.

In general I would be extremely careful buying shoes regardless of type of leather hoping for them to stretch

Maybe I've misunderstood, or you weren't addressing me -- but I don't buy shoes hoping for the leather to stretch

Not really seeing your point on shell vs calf stretching, either. Which stretches more to you? I don't get what you mean by bringing up all these other factors.

I am hard on all my footwear including shell. I found that the shell rarely stretches, but my insoles sink get molded to my feet. so they all eventually fit looser over time. calf/suede feels broken in after 2-3 wears. and cxl stretches almost immediately.

To me shell takes much more time to stretch than calf.
