--> - Many new members join at once, perhaps in response to newspaper publicity.
|
| - Said new members ask questions that could have been answered with the search function.
|
| - Slightly less new members answer the question by quoting almost verbatim other
| SF threads on the subject (such as the thread *they* started as a result of not using
| the search function when *they* first joined.) The result is a monotonous, almost robotic
| chorus of responses that all say the same things.
|
| - New members feel enlightened.

I think it's just human nature to be lazy and ask a question before searching.. although I do have an issue with the search function: there's no way to edit out the "for sale" threads on a particular topic or designer...
That being said, I did feel enlightened when I first came across SF!

It does really annoy me when people just paraphrase something they read about a week ago and act as if they're an authority on the topic. It is, as you say, this sort of Mobius ring of highly limited and impersonal regurgitated 'facts': 'your jacket must cover your arse'; 'your jacket can't have any pulling anywhere'; 'you must always wear a white shirt'. It's so boring : [
