While enjoying one of my favorite guilty pleasure shows (CSI: Miami), I saw something I'd never seen before: a seersucker tuxedo. It was blue/white seersucker with black peak lapels and buttons, a ventless jacket, and pants with a black stripe down the leg.

Does such a thing exist in the real world? I love seersucker, but this thing was a monstrosity, and I would NEVER consider owning one. That said, seeing it on TV piqued my curiosity. I can't imagine there's actually a use for it, but I suppose stranger items of clothing have existed. I figured I'd ask the gentlemen of Style Forum to see if there has actually ever been a real live seersucker tux sighting.

BB Black Fleece is showing an all-black seersucker tuxedo this season, with shorts.

That BB tux isnt bad. I am having trouble imagining a good looking white/blue/black seersucker tux though.

Yeah, the BB isn't terrible. I think the reason you're having trouble imagining a good looking white/blue/black tux is because it's impossible for such a thing to exist. After having seen one, I can't come up with a way it could be altered to make it anything but tragic.

If it is seersucker then it is not a tux. Seersuckers are as casual fabric and tuxes are a formal peice and if you mix the two that's fine but you cannot not label it as a formal item. Further more shorts unless your in the bahamas or something do not belong with a suit coat. A blazer maybe but deffinatley not a tux jacket.

Make this blue and you're looking at the tux I saw on the show! I still don't understand why anyone would think this is a good idea.

Fair point. I should have been more specific - I meant that the coat isn't bad. The shorts belong only on Angus Young.

There's precedent in the South for shorts with a tuxedo.

Additionally, on my TV, the seersucker looked black. It was at Bergdorf Goodman like 3 years ago I've been told. That's all I can find out.

Lastly, I can't imagine a time when such a garment would be appropriate. It's a dinner jacket, but you don't wear seersucker at night (at least I don't). It's a cool idea, I noticed it too last night, but the more I thought about it, the less I want it.

An all black seersucker dinner jacket is, wow, an interesting idea. Certainly better suited to the Southern climes than barathea.

A New Orleans member of the forum should buy one.

It'd be absolutely stunning, but without the shorts. I wonder how hard it would be to find the fabric. Personally I think grosgrain lapels would look best, 1 button, torn between shawl and peak.
