I'm skeptical of some of these C&J vs. Church's comparisons. Church's custom grade is very respected and not like the the Italian made shoes also offered. Church's Consul is perhaps the definitive black toe oxford. Worth a look for sure.

Custom grade are darn fine shoes. I believe members are apprehensive about the pricing of their shoes as a whole (not the Custom gr. specifically), due in part again to their usage of corrected grains.

I own a pair of Churches brogues - no discernible difference to C&J mainline that I can see.

I'm trying to decide between the TLB artista picasso and goya last. Any tips on chiseled toe vs round? Is chiseled toe going out of style any time soon?

I am planning to buy my first pair of "good" black oxford cap toes. I am buying in London and my price range is around 350 GBP. I am currently deciding between C&J Connaught and the Carmina Forrest last. I won't pay VAT since I am buying as a tourist so the C&J shoe is roughly 70 GBP more expensive then the Carmina one. I am not too fussed about paying the extra money for the C&J but just want to be sure its actually a better shoe. I am concerned because based on my limited research, the Carmina seems to be as good in terms of build quality and people find it to be a more stylish shoe as well(I have only seen pictures on the internet and I want to reserve my own judgement about the aesthetics till I actually try both shoes in the store). Is the extra 70 pounds for the C&J worth it or does it make sense to save the money and buy the Carmina instead? The links for both shoes are below. Any advice would be greatly appreciated?

I would choose the CJ. Its a more classic design and in my experience CJ uses better quality materials. CJ also breaks in more rapidly then carmina.

Does anyone have any experience with Amblier by The Sabot.

They seem to be very competitively priced..

No experience but I always thought that they looked nice. Free lasted shoe trees is a nice touch as well.
