It’s quite amazing that closed channel soles are available at such a low price point

Made in Spain. Likely a lot of corners cut for that price.

Very well put together shoes these Berwick 1707's, they have a very streamlined and technically advance production facility that allows them to keep manufacturing costs low, but from what we have seen their quality is excellent. It puts a lot of makers to shame.

I am always open to new brands.

If ranking against say AE, Loake, how would they compare? Or compare Berwick against brands you own, and tell us how they rank.

I don't mean to disparage Spanish made shoes. They have produced some quality footwear.

One of my favourite brands, Hartt (vintage Canadian shoe maker that shut down in the 90s) was recently revived.

Production now in Spain and quality seems acceptable though it's clear they set up in the Iberian peninsula to cut costs and increase profit. Canadian manufactured shoes have a cult following but would cut into the bottom line.

Most of my shoes are lower to mid-range - Loake, Sanders, RM Williams, Alden etc. I have two pairs of Berwick, penny loafers in snuff and apron toe derbies in polo suede via AFPOS. The suede quality, overall construction & finishing is pretty much the same as Loake and Sanders. The lining is not as buttery soft as my Sanders shoes and the padding under the insock is a little thin. Break-in was quick, painless and a world away from the world of hurt that accompanies a new pair of Meermins. They're great shoes.

Quick sizing question. Do people take the same size in Loake's Capital and AS 109? Looking at a pair of Armfields, but don't want to pull the trigger. For reference, I am a 6F in Capital, with a good, comfortable fit.
