The two church's I wear have full leather insoles as do the C&J I have . Both these brands I have found comfortable and the leather insole has conformed to my foot over time . However the AS exclusive , actually the Wilson which you feature , I found to be hard and uncomfortable under foot even after persevering with them . Can you comment on the relative comfort of some of the brands you have reviewed.

I cannot tell much difference in the leather insoles between my different shoes.

In case anyone cares, I just got my Edward Green Cheleas on the 202 last, and they are the finest black captoes I have ever worn. And I've tried all the usual suspects: JL, C&J, AE, Alden, you name it. Highly recommend picking up a pair if you're in the market. The quintessential business shoe.

Two new additions to my English shoe collection, AS Armfields (from AFPOS) and CJ Hallams (from Bodileys).

The AS were a purchase following this thread. I received them today and couldn't be happier with them.

Previously been purchasing through herring shoes, size 11uk no issues (will look to replace my churchs consul through them soon).

Note re sizing the AS also are a perfect fit, the CJ have been loose around the heel (seem to fix with leather inner sole).

Sorry for quality of photo (taken from my ipad)

Just ordered a pair of Armfields through AFPOS. I'm really looking forward to receiving them based on some of the pictures I've seen here. Also, for the price, I couldn't refuse.

The leather quality is phenomenal, the best of all the shoes I own. Makes me wonder the quality of leather on shoes costing $900 and up.

Where isn't much difference in quality when you go up in price, very poor in disminishing returns.

I have experience already with AS, as I own a jodphur boot, the Alex model. The leather and finishing is top notch.

S Exclusive is a nice comparison for me too. EG and G&G make a tighter fit on the last so the shape is more contoured. For me (maybe EG and G&G lasts just maybe fit better), this provides a nice supported fit. The finishing of EG and G&G are also done much better. The color holds better and the finish is more even. Is it worth double the price? That's up to the buyer to decide.

Getting EG and G&G on sale does make it easier to own though. :)

unfortunately for black shoes, the finishing doesn't count at all, and AS always go on sale too! :slayer:
