Is the shell toe and facings shell you think?
I'm fairly sure it is/was patent leather, which was common on Footjoy golf shoes. This pair was totally lacquered over with a black coat of something, probably cheap liquid polish. They have a number stamped into the heel, like they were rentals at some club. Rather than care for them, they got shlacked a few times with something paint-like.

I remember removing it taking a lot of effort, bit not exactly how I did it. I know I used hot water and possibly Dawn, followed by some solvent I had. Whatever chemical I used deglazed any patent finish along with the lacquer. Alternatively, It could be something synthetic like Corfam. I see now how it looks like it could be old shell, but during all the earlier work I did, this was not the case.

They aren't an easy restore, but it's doable. In my opinion, they should be resoled, which is why I'm out. I have a list of other work I'd like done on my shoes, and these would fall near the bottom because I'm already past the point of diminishing returns.

Makes sense. Thanks for the info Joe. I'm not in the market for this particular pair but I was curious nonetheless.

If anyone is interested in a 11.5 D pair of vintage Church's "Fighting Seal" shoes - Made in England, let me know. I wear 9D - 9.5D... So these are looking for a nice new home. Interesting hand written model/date code. If you'd like more pics, PM me.

The Church's Chatham 'Fighting Seal' shoes above - I'd let them go for $69 USD - (+$15 shipping to USA or Canada). I can send more photos too. The soles are original. According to a fellow forum member, the sizing on the sole shows the D on the left part of the sole and the 115 on the right which apparently indicates this as a (11.5D) U.S. size rather than the UK size. See photo.

Anyone know how Dack’s fit? Any lasts that are comparable?

If you are D for most US brands, go to E for Dacks.

Length should be same.

I have been picking up some pairs at Estate Sales and Thrift Stores. But, I am having zero look selling them on the Facebook group. I’m not trying to make a bunch of money. Just looking to pay for the shoes plus shipping and a very small amount to justify my continued purchases to sell to vintage shoe fans.

Maybe I am paying too much. But, here are a few I have now if anyone on here is interested.

if you think I’m too high, make me an offer.

The first pair pictured is a vintage MADE IN USA Johnston & Murphy ARISTROCRAFT Cap Toe Oxford (Style 24-8569). This is the real deal MiUSA high quality Aristocraft that is so desireable. These are 10E. They made light to moderate wear. They have lots of life left in them. They are very hard to find. Price $50 including shipping CONUSA or OBO.

The second pair are VERY special vintage MiUSA Footjoy. They are a very handsome oxford that is sort of a mix of a Saddle and cap toe. They are very handsome. Size 10.5D. They have light to moderate wear. No significant sratches, no holes in the soles, and will clean up very nicely. They are not quite a spade sole, but it is not a typical sole. Again very handsome and desireable. I had to pay up for these as the thrift store has decided to really increase their pricing. Price $60 including shipping OBO

The next pair is a well known and much loved Allen Edmonds Chester. These are probably the most handsome Short-wing style I have seen. I forgot to include a picture of the insole, but they have SUPER light wear. They have light wear and are VERY nice. MiUSA real leather. Made back when AE was still high quality. 9.5C. Price $62 including shipping CONUSA OBO

I have a few other pairs, but I will post them in a separate post because I'm running out of pictures.

I also have two other pair of Johnston Murphy Aristrocraft (Cap Toe) in brown. They are size 10, and 12. I will also be posting a pair of Florsheim 92604 9D.

Continued from above:

The next pair is a classic staple of Menswear. The Allen Edmonds Park Avenue. Someone polished these with WAY too much polish. So, I will be cleaning them up and polishing them correctly. They look very good. Light to moderate wear. Lots of life left in these. Great shoes. Size is 9E. Price is $65 including shipping CONUSA.

The next pair is a wonder pair of Allen Edmonds Burton in a handsome chocolate brown. They are 9.5C and VERY LIGHT wear as you can tell in the pictures. Size is 9.5C. They were one of the most expensive priced pair at the store. Consequently, the price is $70 including shipping CONUSA.

None of them are my size, but I don't think you're asking too much for any of them.
