Hey Brad,

I'm not trying to speak for you. I went ahead and took the liberty of saying "most people are looking for," but that could be as little as >50% of people. Plenty of room for you to not be included. I think the number is greater, though, and I'll explain below.

Also, you're doing that thing where I make a non-extreme comment, and then you present the most extreme version of it, to ridicule my original comment. The problem is, I didn't say the extreme version that you're presenting. No Yahoo Answers or anything like it from me. For example, I say to a guy, "I think you're dressed too warmly for the weather." He responds: "So you want me to strut around in a banana hammock?!?" No man, that's not what I'm saying.

Fok did the same thing. He presented the most extreme dumbed-down version of what I was saying: "Buy X." But I figured he was being humorous. Plus, I'm sure he and the crew are tired from Pitti, and it wasn't the most uplifting thing to read my (hopefully constructive) criticism (I did give praise in there, too). So if he wanted to show me a little edge, I was fine with it.

The non-extreme stuff I was saying was for a higher clothing stuff / to non-clothing stuff ratio. I said I liked reading about the non-clothing stuff (food, drink, travel difficulties, whatever), but the bread and butter of SF is clothes, and the other stuff should be offshoots of that. How many times have we read discussions that end with "It's only clothes, man"? I also said I liked reading all subject matter (clothing or non-clothing) from a personal point of view, rather than distant objectivity. And about the clothing stuff, I do think *most* people are interested in what's good and what's not. I say this simply from looking around the Internet.

Wherever people gather to talk about a good or service, people try to determine what's good and what's not. What are the best universities? Mid-size pickups? Blenders? Ski runs? Snowboards? Best vacuum for dog hair? Veterinary service in my area? Tailors? Cobblers? Gaming PC? New manga? What's good about clothes is that what's good is a much richer discussion than for something like blenders.

But what always happens with Pitti is that they break down the process of actually attending Pitti (these posts) and then follow up with individual threads dedicated to what they covered there. In addition, there is tons of clothing-related content both in these posts and elsewhere on the forum. So it's hard to take your criticism seriously.

i liked what poorsod said about this; the pitti coverage is really a sort of styleforum reality show. i will never touch 99% of the clothes they reported on, nor does a lot of it fit my aesthetic, and styleforum is diverse enough stylistically that the writers will not manage to hold interest by writing about more brands. Add to that the fact that writing about clothes tends to sound like cliche advertising copy--or on the flip side, it's really boring to read about a bunch of brands being described by someone who found them not that interesting--and I would conclude that the type of coverage here is a good direction. the social aspects of pitti and the feeling of being there, with the soft-gonzo synth style to cover the circus, is why i'm reading it.

Don't want my comment to be misconstrued. I've been enjoying the Pitti coverage, but was just building on the comments before me. Still think it would be nice to see some other articles on StyFo -- unrelated to tradeshows -- but the posts on tradeshows have been fun as well.

For me the cliffhangers from this season of Pitti SF are:

1) Did Synthese ever meet female Asian Synthese or are they doomed to Craigslist's Missed Connections? If they did meet, are they alike or is she a bizzaro version of Synthese?

2). Who is that girl in several pictures with unbel? Is she the same person of interest from last season? Or was that just Synthese ragging on unbel's game?

:lurk:

I haz to know. But it seems I'll have to wait for the next season Pitti SF to find out.

We're losing precision in what we're talking about, Brad. Anything could be argued to be "clothing-related" and I should have been more precise than "clothing stuff". I'm talking about the crew telling us about "articles of clothing" at Pitti that caught or repulsed or bored their eye. If one source was responsible for multiple articles, go ahead and talk about a "collection" or "brand" or "designer".

Yeah, the amount of this they've done isn't zero. But I thought the ratio of (A) writing about "articles of clothing" : to (B) writing about bisteca or being really tired or other non-"articles of clothing" writing was surprisingly low. If more A is in the pipeline, the ratio will increase, and I'll be even more appreciative of this bonus of SF guys and gals going to Pitti and writing about their time there. Peace.

1) Didn't he take a picture of her? Don't know if they talked.

2) I though that might have been Stephanie, marketing woman or some such from Huddler. Probably there to keep things in line--and failing.

Asian Female Synthese asked Synthese to move so that she could take a picture of Greg. Synthese smiled and bowed respectfully out of the frame. Synthese pretended not to be crushed.

my cliffhangers were:

1) how soon 'till we find out details of the sf/jh collab project

2) how soon 'till we get a pic of synth decked out in that pink hba coat

if #2 is not available then maybe a video of him eating bistecca off of the floor in a drunken fury
