First, observations:

1. Asian martial arts rely too much on magic

2. Bruce Lee's Jeet Kun Do is a mix of all styles, and no styles, to perfect a fighting method. He is the true father of MMA.

3. Boxing is very effective, but lacks leg strikes

4. MMA fails to address weapons

5. MMA fails to address multiple opponents

My thesis:

A mix of karate/TKD (for legwork and multiple opponents), boxing (for evasion, footwork, stamina, and striking), and Hapkidoor Jiu Jitsu (for joint locks and some grappling).

Krav Maga? I don't know enough about it, but I hope I can learn something in this thread. My Katy Perry thread is not doing so great.

Why not simply avoid circumstances where you will need to fight?

That's what people who can actually fight do.

Also Gene Lebell is the father of MMA, and Bruce Lee would tell you that if he was still alive.

Knowing how to punch, grapple, knife fight, and pistol handling are good skills to have. Plenty of good teachers out there if you have the dedication, and money for it.

Knowing how to fight if necessary to defend yourself or loved ones makes one more confident. Confident people walk with a certain swagger. This means more ladies will ask you to hold their hand.

I don't think you have to master so many types of martial arts and aim to be a complete fighter. 99% of people don't have any fighting skills so just taking lessons of any type should be enough to defend and avoid a situation.

I'm not sure about your reasoning though...to me it sounds similar to people who spend so much time and effort in the gym to gain muscle to cover up their insecurities. If they just spent even half of the time and effort they spend in the gym to make more money, their goal of attracting more women would be achieved quite easily. Same for martial arts...if the motivation is mainly for attracting women, it's better to spend that time on working.

My post was more about the young people, not so much me.

Think of how things might be different if Dylan Klebold and that other guy knew how to handle bullies and how to project confidence.
