I’m so glad I finally have a reason to share this:

A TikToker posted a video rating men’s shoes and how attractive they are. She rated “brown oxfords”—with the example below—a “20 out of 10” because it can be dressed up or down and “looks just as good with chinos as jeans.”

It’s just perfect. Trolling the “oxfords only with suits” and “wearing oxfords casually will get you laid” groups.

Women notice men's shoes (so I'm told), and while men seemed to have upped their game in recent years, where I live the bar is sufficiently low such that it doesn't seem possible women's perspective on the topic could be as granular as discussed here. Sneakers, deck shoes, crocs, and more sneakers abound, so it's rather binary: men are either wearing good shoes or they're not. A man wearing a decent pair of fitted jeans and Oxfords would look good, period.

I’m not sure if you did it intentionally but her rating a brown derby 20/10 while calling it an oxford is just

DWW probably over there noticing she talked about the versatility and how a brown derby works with denim and tailoring like

Ha, I did, because:

Considering the wide ranging agreement on the forum that most men in GenPop have no idea what rhe difference between an oxford or derby is, I find it ridiculous to believe most women will.

Now, granted, I was hooking up with 20-25 year olds 10-15 years ago, and perhaps women have grown an attachment for CM-Fey looks, but the vast preferences I always encountered were most definitely not for CM.

Things like loafers, denim, moccasins, Frye boots, flannels were preferred.

Looking at young men and women I see around LA now, or what is represented on TV, I have a hard time believing this tight, aggressive CM adjacent look is actually attractive to most women, especially young women.

I still don't think some of you get it. Old boy in the skinny blazer and jeans isn't dressing to win the approval of middle-aged men who aspire to this:

Think it's safe to say he has a different game in mind.

Imagine being a middle-aged man and dressing like this.

Honestly would rather cut off my own penis.

I think women notice symmetry and cohesiveness much better than men. I've noticed the (few since Covid) times my female colleagues complemented a guy's wardrobe was when they had equal amounts of shirt linen showing above the jacket collar and at the cuffs, matching leather (clean and shined shoes, belt, watch band), a decent silhouette, and some sort of cohesive color palette and textural matching.

I suspect they notice stuff like this as they generally take the time to put together a look for the day and notice when others do as well.

But I'm not sure where this idea came from that women like men who wear tight clothes. The first thing women I've dated comment on is a man wearing pants too short and/or too tight. I think there's a causation/correlation issue going on here. Men who wear cropped, tight pants tend to be young, fashion-conscious men--even if they get their style cues from GQ or instagram influencers or wherever; young men who put any effort into their appearance tend to get laid more than those that don't. It doesn't mean the same women who hook up with these men aren't still making fun of their overly tight pants behind their backs.
