looks pretty good, if you're going for MtM because it cost so much you feel like better bang for the buck elsewhere?

My initial thought is that looks pretty good! What are your concerns about it that might warrant going MTM?
I would just say the front back balance perhaps. Question is whether it’s really worth it given I got this coat for $1600 vs. MTM or bespoke being north of double…

I've been looking for an ideal balmacaan for a few months now, but I can't seem to find one that nails all the details I'm looking for. The fabric should be a salt and pepper herringbone tweed (ecru is fine too), it needs to have a back pleat and a belt, and the collar should ideally have a throat latch hidden underneath so I can pop the collar up when it really starts to freeze over. Any idea where I could find something this specific RTW without needing to resort to MTM/bespoke?

I can't recall ever seeing a belt on a Balmacaan.

I just got one from S.E.H. Kelly in Donegal tweed. It's lovely but not sure if it meets your needs.

Also, Paynter is releasing their Balmacaan tomorrow at 2pm UK time. However, you need to sign up for their newsletter to get access. You can look at their Instagram feed to see what it looks like.

You tried the Anthology one (just a RTW product)?

I've seen belted Balmacaans before, for example O'Connells' balmacaan offers a belted option. On the other hand, back pleats on a Balmacaan seem extremely rare, only Drakes appears to make one RTW and I dislike the other details of their overcoats.

Scratch that, I just looked at the SEH Kelly one you mentioned and it's got a back pleat too, as well as a throat latch! No belt and not the exact fabric I'm looking for though, but it's very close. I'll keep it in mind as a potential option.

I posted a couple of pics in this post in case it helps.

Husbands makes a raglan coat with belt, back pleat and a great collar. I had one made in Permanent Style donegal tweed a couple of years ago (more details here). They don't seem to be offering a RTW one at the moment, but maybe you could ask them about MTO.
