It was strange how the nose changed depending on how much wine was in the glass. You'd get certain notes after a fresh pour, take a sip, then it would show something else, take another sip, etc. The more was in the glass the better it showed, IMO.

Nice! Glad you guys got to enjoy the La Tache and the 2000 is a great vintage to drink now as you noticed.

Regarding wine changing depending on the amount in the glass, I completely agree. I'm a strong believer that each glass you pour throughout the evening from the same bottle is very different. I never like to refill my glass until every drop from the previous one is gone. You really get a chance to see how the wine is developing over time.

I have definitely noticed the changing characteristics of wine depending on the amount in the glass. I guess it all has to do with the oxidation process. Much slower process inside the bottle. It makes it a real treat and a mystery with each new pour.

2008 Rochioli Sweetwater vineyard Pinot Noir. I usually find the Rochioli single vineyards too sweet and sappy when young, but this was actually nice. No mistaking that it's from California, but it's got some depth and will be an interesting drink in a few years.

Anybody had much Austrian Blauburgunder (Pinot Noir clone)? Can't recall the maker but had a couple of glasses of an 08 last night. Pretty nice albeit young. Lighter than the Oregon/Washington pinots I like.

Has anybody had any experience with the Maison Louis Latour Pinots? There is a shop by me that has a ton of them, but I have generally stayed away because it looked sort of overly commercial. Any thoughts?

It's a huge negociant, one of the biggest in Burgundy. Quality overall is very high. I can't remember the last time I have had a bad wine from them but I certainly have had some forgettable ones. At the low end of the scale (e.g., the Macons) they do a great job but their "Pinots" as opposed to village reds tend to be banal.

As far the larger Burgundy Negociant houses go, I think Drouhin is head and shoulders above the others. I've never had a bad one anywhere up their chain although I can't say the same for Latour, Jadot and Faiveley.
