Several years ago Dan Goldfield spent a lot of time at the resort five minutes from the house as the resident somm had developed quite a relationship with him. This somm was allowed to take part in his custom blend program where he spent time at the winery picking barrels for the resort's own cuvee. Dan looks sort of like a younger Patrick Stuart and is a great guy to bend an elbow with.

Vivino has an offer on some pinot in case anyone is interested (*cough @Omega Male ). I ended up with a case of 2018 Clos du Val from Carneros for about $15 a bottle. Looks to be pretty highly rated. Case price is $210 and there are discount codes to get you down another 20%.

If its half as good as I expect at least it will do as a daily.

Young full of strawberries but exceptionally dry on the palate more like a Tasmanian Pinot than Central Otago..very enjoyable.

Had a 2016 Booker Full Draw, 22 Month Extended Aging on Thursday. Colour was gorgeous, and it was drinking fine, but another few years to mellow out the tannins would have worked too.

Going to some friends' place for dinner and they just got back from Napa. I know the husband wants to crack their mag of aged Caymus Special Selection he brought back and I intended to encourage that. :) I'm bringing the nosh plate and a bottle of that aged Riesling I had last week. Should be good times.
