Some fun ones today. The Barolo was perfect for a ‘47.

and on the complete end of the spectrum: my wife was running some errands and dropped by the local state-monopoly wine store. the selection there does tend to be spotty at best. my wife lapsed into despair and just bought whatever was on sale--banfi chianti (worse than i'd remembered it being) and josh cellars rosé (even worse than i expected it to be). bad wine really is bad for the soul. i would've preferred drinking water with my dinner to both of those.

This is why one must maintain at least a semblance of a cellar. Otherwise, be caught lacking at your peril.

Just grabbed two cases of Siduri Willamette Valley at Costco for $12 a bottle. Not upset and have a nice stash of daily drinkers that goes with almost anything.

I saw an M. Etain above...I've not been able to make myself pull the trigger on that allocation given it's $250 or so a bottle for their second wine. That said, still would like to try it. We were kicking around opening a 2016 Scarecrow for her B-day in October but think we'll do a Grange from the 90s instead. Our good friends, she has her B-day a day before Mrs. Piob, so we're hosting and I'm doing cassoulet to include my homemade lardons and garlic/basil sausage.

Cracked a 2014 Denner Mother of Exiles and it did not suck. Ditto a 2016 Terry Hoage The Hedge Syrah. Popped a 2010 Quilceda Creek Cab for dinner last night and it was really good. Have a couple more of those and will miss them when they're gone.

If you like green pepper taste of methoxypyrazine in Cabs check out some from the Niagara Region of Ontario. In red wines it can be present to the point of a flaw and has to do with the grape not getting enough hang time on the vine to properly ripen. At least prior to the rapid change in climate Niagara Region Cabs were almost undrinkable to me due to having to harvest prior to achieving enough hang time to dispel an adequate amount of the methoxypyrazines.

I think someone else posted this wine recently. Bought a bottle on a lark—hadn’t tried it before. Didn’t expect to like it all that much because a friend who raves about this wine also likes stuff like Molly Dooker or whatever it’s called. But was pleasantly surprised—very nice pizza wine.

You guys know I'm a drinker and not much of a food picture kind of a guy but a temporary exception tonight.
Lobster soup and Henriot (by the glass, not proud over that)

Some Tignanello and tournedos for main

Screw that though. The interesting part is the €160 price for the Tignanello. In a restaurant thats really low considering I'm living in mother Sweden
