This is just my opinion so ignore it.

I like to take pics of my labels in the same spot. It's like continuity or something. I enjoy it the most when other people have a spot they usually use or at least a certain format. When someone is constantly posting pics of random bottles in random places with random people in the background...it feels odd to me. Almost like the person is walking around taking pictures of other people's bottles or something.

I tend to do that too.

Since I've been in a foul mood due to some personal stuff, I thought I'd try a punch-in-the-mouth wine rather than anything actually good or balanced. Bought this:

700

Even more awful than I'd anticipated--like grape-and-vanilla flavored candy. I guess it's therapeutic to drink a wine that's an affront to my palate. I can think to myself, "At least I'm not in such a low place that I'd actually enjoy this wine." And with each sip, my attention is diverted away from ****** life stuff to the shittiness of this wine.

EDIT: That really is my thumb, I swear.

I could not help but LOL at the words "ancient" and "Lodi" on the same label.

Quite nice. Maybe even a bit much in terms of flavor. I think I prefer Chapoutier's Gigondas.

Yeah.. they had '10 and '11. I chose '10. :)
I guess it'd become a little smoother with a couple more years but it's alreeady quite enjoyable.

Poured awful Zin down the drain. Went to a watering hole in town that, for some bizarre reason, sells champagne for retail price.

400

Not sure what the game was, though. I originally ordered a different bottle of champers, but the waiter came back and said, "Oh, we're out of that one, but we have these two other bottles. Both of them are more expensive than the one you ordered, but just pick one." But one was a cheap-o Cremant. In any case, the champers that we ended up with was pretty middling, but it was champers @ less than retail price nonetheless. (With a ghetto platter of hush puppies and mini biscuits.)

Yeah. I might keep going back a couple of times a week until they jack up the prices.

A couple of days ago one of the guys at work pulled a blinder on us that turned out to be a Pinot Noir (that shall remain nameless) that had been one of Wine Spectator's top five wines of the year. Guesses around the table, all from winemakers/winemaking staff: Grenache, Grenache, Zinfandel, Zinfandel, Zinfandel. Tells you something...

Had some seared foie gras last night that was just amazing. Normally I'd pair Sauternes with it, but my host didn't have any in the cellar, instead we committed infanticide on a bottle of 2000 montrose; it was actually a fantastic pairing and while the wine was still very young, it showed signs of brilliance. Also drank a 2001 cos which IMO is a highly underrated wine.
