Tonight, having dinner with extended family:
09 Ridge Viognier - just horrible, a wine that should have never been released
    91 Ridge Montebello - sublime
02 Rige Montebello Cabernet Franc - rich and floral, just lovely
08 Rivers Marie Cabernet - not my style, huge, oaky, alcoholic

I have been lucky enough to have the '91 Montbello a few times. Great wine. Glad to know that about Rivers Marie. Friend wanted to know if I wanted to split some but your description steers me away. Thanks

The Pride Reserve still going strongly deeper into the night. Plenty of tannin& fruit still. '97 was a bit of a fleshy, ripe year so I was not sure the wine would still be tasty. This wine still has some years left.

I have found RM Cabs to be not my style, but their pinot noirs are outstanding, in fact, probably my favorite CA pinot noir. Different in style and character in every way from their cabernet.

Last night we started with a Giacosa Soave 2009. Fresh, vibrant, balanced, very nice.

And then this one below. Fully mature, well integrated, drinking well now:

    Some days just work out.

    I ran across Ducru-Beaucaillou 2004 for $40. A sane price for Bordeaux.

Imagine how much we'd all love Bordeaux if it wasn't priced stratospherically.

I could not love it any more than I do but I could buy more.

In twenty years you'll regret your parsimony - go back and buy a case.

    Self-control, Ducru-Beaucaillou... self-control, Ducru-Beaucaillou... self-esteem, Ducru-Beaucaillou...

I have no self control, no self esteem and no money- But I do now have a half case.

There was only one left at that point.

Excellent choice - top ramen for dinner, but a bitchin' cellar...
