2006 Poderi La Collina Dolcetto superiore last night.

Eh... VERY jammy nose with a VERY jammy, almost syrupy grapiness... odd for a Dolcetto. Interesting too as I like PLC's in general but their 06's across the board are iffy.

I really drink very little white wine, so when I do I want it to be really good.

Very nice. Crispy, minerally and light. Very nice and about $20 a bottle. Would definitely buy again.

That is always a reliable white from Kermit. I wonder when he started putting his name on the front of the label?

    What happened to the gig?

With my rescent promotion at my "real" job I was down to just working Saturdays. So, with that and the regular late nights at M/J, I was starting to burn out fast and I needed my weekends back [IMG]

Luckily it's right across the street from the Metra Station so I still stop in, especially on Tuesdays when they have half price tastings on the Enomatics [IMG]

Just made reservations for next Tuesday night to go to a wine dinner with "the interest". Restaurant is Mi Piaci, which is my favorite Italian place in Dallas. "Is that akin to saying, the tallest building in Wichita, KS," you may ask. I don't necessarily think so. I really enjoy it and haven't been there in years, so I'm really looking forward to it.

The featured wine/winemaker is Candoni, so pretty value-priced, mass-market Italian wines. Still, food should be good and even if the wine is meh, after enough of it I won't really care.

So very sad. I'm embarrassed for my countrymen.

I need Matt's little "jack off" emote.

I've had excellent ice wines from Inniskillin. And, despite my general dislike of critics and scores, Inniskillin consistently gets between 90-94 from vintage to vintage.

Oh yeah, for the ice wine. Don't think it's icewine they're talking about. You know I'm a fan of Ontario ice wine.

I had some fantastic food last night, need moar.

Kusshi Oysters (BC) w/ apple vinegar and shallots - these little bastards were awesome.
Roasted Macarona almonds and iberian olives
    Fermin jamon iberico - [IMG]
    Jamon serrano
Cured foie gras w/ fig 'salad', lemon verbena, fig sorbet, brioche - one of the best foie dishes I've ever had
pimentos de padron - blistered Spanish peppers
lightly cured fluke w/ meyer lemon, almond milk, coconut
Portuguese octopus a la plancha - squid-ink citrus puree, chick pea stew

    Beverages started with a martini
And then a glass of wine: Mas Foraster, Montblanc, Garnacha Blanca, Macabeo y Chardonnay, Catalonia

These are probably the greatest small oyster around and one of my favorites. Another variety to look for are Fanny Bays which have a nice sweetness to them, bigger than kusshis too.

Let's see where everyone is at year end, what type of bonuses we get, etc., and then see who is up to Vegas in late Feb. Sound good?

Ha. My thinking exactly. Feb is usually when my bonus gets paid out.

Sounds good then. Let's revisit the idea around the first of the year and see who's in.

My annual jaunt is CES. Too bad, a wine/food fest with you guys sounds like a blast.

Just went out for a quick tasting. Man, drinking Reisling from a winery that has been in the same family since 1462 is outrageous.
