Turtle Rock is having their members party on 3/22, 5-8p. We're in town but that's our night at Somm's Kitchen.

This was simply incredible. The two years in French oak no doubt gave the wine its longevity. Red cherries, fresh strawberries, peppery notes...so smooth. No bricking, still that perfect bright garnet of a great grenache.

This a new thing?

Opened just before COVID, got his first Michelin star in 2021 and defended it in 2024. We ate there in November of 2022. Just 12 seats set up in a wrap around bar facing the open kitchen. Chef Ricky spent a lot of time with Mrs. Piob and me during the meal. We really enjoyed it.

He's a haole, good French technique, lots of Asian inspired dishes.

I've gone three times now, each time hoping to be impressed, and walked away feeling meh. That's Stefan's son that is chef/owner with his wife.

Interesting- we couldn’t even get a reservation the last time we went. Was booked like 2-3 weeks out

They just opened a new place that's more Spanish/tapas style. I've heard good things about it, but then again, I've heard good things about LPC too. The somm at LPC is a good guy, the staff is well trained, but honestly the food and menu have left me meh every time. It's also really noisy there.

Booker just opened the 2023s to club members and I dropped 3k.

There's a pod cast about Paso in general, and Paso wines in particular, Where Wine Takes You. Download some of the 2024 episodes and listen to how everyone from Matt Trevisan to Justin Smith, Mark Adams, Don Burns, to Justin Smith are talking about this vintage. They are making this out to be the best vintage Paso has ever seen.

I am buying the phuck out of the 2023s.

Recently joined up here to have some more out-of-the-house wine interactions. Despite the stated membership criteria they actually let me in.

So we have cut back on our consumption so instead of 4-5 bottles a week, we are more at 2-3. This has caused us space issues because I order a case whenever I see something I have liked historically. Now Piob talking about Paso 2023...will be more purchases if I see some ones we have had before.

We just got an allocation of No Girls Wines. Christophe Baron is the co-owner and winemaker, this is Walla Walla wine like his Cayuse wines.

We had a bottle or two in the last year and were really impressed. Get yourself on the wait list.

Got off the waitlist. Which ones did you try? Looks like I can grab the Tempranillo, Syrah, Grenache, and Double Lucky. Haven't been super impressed with WW Grenache. Also have not had Cayuse to compare...

We're a minimum of seven bottles a week, sometimes more. I do the heavy lifting and the "more" is because I decided to crack a bottle for myself vs. drinking whisky. I'm contemplating a material cut back as I'm just getting old.

I added commentary but I guess it didn't save.

The DL is a nice, cool weather blend. Still has some nice fruit, particularly after a decant. I have yet to taste anything else but I do have Cayuse to compare with and the DL to extrapolate off of. I'd pass on the Temp. The Syrah is likely to be brawny and need several years of bottle age. The Grenache, based off my Cayuse memories, will be more structured than something from CA, or even some of the more fruit forward southern Rhones. Will probably be very clean with good florals and lean more towards darker fruits than your typical warmer weather Grenache.

I'd buy everything but the Tempranillo if I was you. Get more DL, as that's going to be ready to drink sooner and more approachable, get a three pack for the Syrah and Grenache.
