drinking a '17 already? how was it
its the second one I’ve had this year. 17 isn’t a great vintage so it’s open. Wine is thin, feels more feminine and barbaresco like. After a couple hours open it picked up some depth and felt more barolo like but I wouldn’t hesitate to open another one. These def won’t last like a great vintage. Def short term drinkers

funny, I opened a ‘16 Langhe Nebbiolo from Mascarello over the weekend and it was sort of open but had the stuffing to go decades

Flew to Maine with the family for beach time. It's raining. Probably should have stayed in California. Oh well, made a fire.

have had this 4 times and have never had a good bottle. Only one was good for about an hour before it fell apart. Got all mine from chambers st

I’m 2 for 3, all from a friend’s cellar though. Don’t know the full provenance.

I suspect chambers buys old bottles without asking too many questions about potential subpar storage. have had a bunch of bad experiences with them. for older bottles in nyc IWM/Astor/Tribeca/etc. are worth the price premium

I remember several years ago there was an earthquake in Napa and Silver Oaks was the worst hit major winery. I can't remember who but some wine reviewer quipped, "Thank god."

Wouldn’t pay retail for Silver Oak let alone restaurant list but will drink for free, as in this case. Staying at friend’s beach house and he said to thin the cellar as he doesn’t keep anything special at the holiday place in case his college kids chug it after running out of Twisted Tea.
