It was ready. The nose was really something and it had settled into a charming old age. Myfather made short ribs, so it seemed right, and it was.

A nice Sauternes is truly a thing of beauty. Sorry yours fell a bit short mid-palate. I’m no expert, but have had maybe 50 different ones in my day. Can’t say I’ve had too many that let me down... Just looking at that bottle has me drooling.
Well, that is far more than I. Sauternes has always been a seduction for me, honey with backbone. I loved the lore before I ever tasted it - the first Sauternes I ever had was a bottle of Roumieu-Lacoste that my father bought me at my request when I think I was 16. I still love it but I accumulate more than I drink, buying 2-3 bottles a year and drinking one or perhaps two a year. Never bought a d'Yquem though; it is a little rich for my blood and the upcharge over the grand crus is non trivial. Though, Les Halles has it by the glass and I had some with my father there long ago. It is a bonny thing.

Doubled up this evening. My first Cremant and it was a nice change from our usual bubbles. I wish I knew wine flavors better but it was different than normal. The Hayfork was delicious as well. Heavy, syrupy weight to it which I haven’t had in a while.

We cased up on the Cremant and don’t know where the Hayfork came from.

I had the second half of that bottle of Grenache. What has come of me? One bottle of wine this week and I drank it over two nights.

It also got the Restaurant at Meadowood, one of my favorite in the world. Wife and I celebrated our 20th anniversary there.

Yeah, fuck 2020. Needed to try @Omega Male cinsault adventures and find this South African with 93% cinsault, 7% syrah. Producer Savage, "Follow the line". Impressive and fun

I'm going to give this the faint endorsement of marginally better than having nothing else to drink.

Would also recommend to all of you to go and buy any Paloma merlot you can still find because it's now gone forever, not just the buildings but all the vines too, and in my opinion this was the best example of the varietal ever made in America. It's a tragedy on the lines of someone nuking Pomerol. Bottle looks like this -- you can choose to drink it or profit off it, but this is going to be unobtanium henceforth.

I think I’m gonna crack a few of my choice stock on our little staycation this weekend. 2012 La Rata for sure, will have to raid the cellar to see what else
