Well, that is far more than I. Sauternes has always been a seduction for me, honey with backbone. I loved the lore before I ever tasted it - the first Sauternes I ever had was a bottle of Roumieu-Lacoste that my father bought me at my request when I think I was 16. I still love it but I accumulate more than I drink, buying 2-3 bottles a year and drinking one or perhaps two a year. Never bought a d'Yquem though; it is a little rich for my blood and the upcharge over the grand crus is non trivial. Though, Les Halles has it by the glass and I had some with my father there long ago. It is a bonny thing.A nice Sauternes is truly a thing of beauty. Sorry yours fell a bit short mid-palate. I’m no expert, but have had maybe 50 different ones in my day. Can’t say I’ve had too many that let me down... Just looking at that bottle has me drooling.
