The random allocations fairy arrived today, too. Everything goes into storage.

Leoville Barton is my jam. Damien is really nice guy in person, too. Looking forward to tasting the 2016’s in January.

I take it the Saxum was not embarrassed in that company?

How was the 2000?

Very primary still. Zero bricking, just a tad of vinousity at the rim. Touch of brett, strong tanins, graphite but not sending me any aged indicators like old leather, tobacco, etc. The Beaucastel was 2001 and perfectly developed but the best wine there was the Janasse. Parker gave that one a 99 and I can see why.

The gent that brought the wine is a wine maker himself and they'll be in France getting private tastings soon. Wish we could go with but they're mega-wealthy while we're stuck working for a living.

Not in the least. The Champs and Saxum were mine. Champs with pre-dinner nosh then the Saxum when his wines were gone. That was J-B Vineyard grapes too so you know it rocked.

Yeah I bet. Tried to get on their list when we moved back to the States and was told the wait is about 7 years.

February of 2015 we went to Paso and Justin had our party to his original barrel room for barrel tastings. This is before his fancy new wine caves and when he was not open to the public. Spitting 100 point wines into the barrel room drainage grate was a good way to spend a morning. He's a great guy.

I'm logging wine into my cellar and Cellar Tracker right now. Just put the Clarice to sleep. Four bottles each of Santa Lucia Highlands, Gary's, and Rosella's. It'll be really young but think I might crack a bottle of the blend over Xmas just to see.

Interesting-- I find mixed opinions on that point. But Jancis Robinson does think that the 2015 Geyserville is one year ahead of Lytton Springs in drinkability, for whatever that is worth.

Query for Zin partisans-- Riedel seems to like smaller glasses for the stuff. Does the more elegant product from Ridge need that, or would an 18.5oz Bordeaux-ish glass survive the alcohol fumes just fine?

I feel like I just scored as I found a bottle in my cellar that wasn't in Cellar Tracker. 1979 PX Grand Reserva. Not a bad find!
