    No votes for Basil Haydens? Pretty decent as well.

    My favorite is Makers Mark due to bang for the buck, but I ultimately prefer Knob Creek.

    Bookers is awesome, albeit a bit too "hot" for casual drinking, its one serious drink.

    Don't worry about the veering--the purpose of the thread was all whisk(e)y. About a month ago, I tried Scapa for the first time, and found it very appealing. Nice smoke, good body. MacAllan 18 is, even for a committed Islay drinker like me, the gold standard of single malt. It has the consistent smoothness of a blend, with enough pepper and enough variation between years to make it interesting. And that beautiful, sweet, sherried finish.... Even so, I can't believe how the prices have climbed in the last four years (I can't find it for under $105 now).

    Wild Turkey  is a superior bourbon to MM, which was the first "created" premium bourbon. If you know bourbons, you can get great value for the money with the small producers. They make some great stuff. Try straightbourbon.com if you wanna learn about whisky especially bourbon. A lot of the producers are on there.

    tgfny is correct. I was out with him once, and he made me change my order from MM to Wild Turkey. Indeed it is better. Who would have thought? Thanks.

    Wild Turkey is a totally different beast from Maker's Mark. MM is a wheatie where WT has a big rye kick. Some people like wheated Bourbon, some like rye-heavy Bourbon. It's a question of personal preference. Both are excellent products (and WT Russel's Reserve is some damn good stuff).

    I have had a "premium" 18 year old canadian rye, I can't for the life of me remember what it was called, but it was agreat price for the quality of wiskey. I guess with all the various rebranding of american wiskies it makes sense for the canadians to get into the game.

    Burried deep in my pirate's cove, I have a bottle of Blanton's single barrel, and this stuff is just mind-blowing. About 65 proof, a drop is enough to set the house on fire.

    oh, and I have also mcallan, ardbeg, Bruichladdich 86 (56 proof), Bunnahabain 1980 (58° proof) and Teaninich 1983 (58° proof) which was one of the best whiskey I ever had.

    Is that really just 65 proof, or is it 65 percent (130 proof--Booker's territory)? The Blanton's SB I have is 93 proof (46 1/2 percent).

    Laphroaig Laphroaig Laphroaig. It somehow seems smokier to me than Lagavulin, and I always come back to it. Oban's quite nice.

    Does anyone know of Vat 69? (It's not a tax nor is it a sexual position). I used to have a bottle and rather liked the taste but it seems to get savaged on scotch boards. Am I missing something? I thought it's decent.

    I've never gotten the Laphroaig taste. Am much thirstier after a glass than before.

    I picked up a bottle of Highland Park 12 YO yesterday and was very impressed: it's smoky without being completely overpowering. Very nice.
