1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

^^^ +1. I don't see anything wrong with a solid navy tie in cashmere or something else with a bit of texture, though.

If he already owned a solid gren it would be a fine choice to wear, but certainly not worth buying one for the occasion. The only physician I have ever met who appeared at all knowledgeable about clothing was a plastics guy at Penn, and save those who post on SF, academia is a sartorial wasteland, so my advice would be to make sure that your outfit is clean and pressed - nothing else will be noticed, which is how it should be. The choice of tie is a very minor consideration indeed (a neat or repp is fine...grab something Brooks Bros off ebay). And leave out the PS.

You never know who'll notice when you step it up a bit. It was the PS that got the convo started.

I dont deny that on occasion it might work out, but generally speaking you want to stand out in interviews for reasons other than your sense of style, and you certainly dont want to be remembered as "the pocket square guy." YMMV.

Sitting next to a woman on the bus reading "driving in cars with boys" and all I could think about is cottendockers. I also had a dream last night that I found a mason kitsune tweed sc at a thrift store. What the fuck has my life come to.

Very true, but keep in mind we're talking about med school here. You wont get in nor be remembered just based on what you're wearing. If you've earned an interview, that means they liked you on paper and want to see who you are in person. If you present yourself well and show you are able to communicate well, you're chances of getting in just went up substantially.

It's true tho, I would rather be remembered for being the 40 MCAT guy than the PS guy. note: no that was not my score i wish

EDIT: To be fair, maybe the med school application process is unknown. Before you even get an interview, you have to fill out two rounds of applications. The first is very general and includes your grades, scores, extracurricular activities, shadowing, personal statement etc. If they like your primary application, they'll invite you to their personalized secondary application. The second is more or less nothing but essays answering questions such as "Why do you want to be a doctor?" "Why this school?" "What special skills will you bring to this school?" Thus, by the time you have your interview, all those questions have already been answered and the dynamics are very different than a normal job interview. It's really just a get to know you in person session -- make sure you're not just a book nerd that looks good on paper but will have terrible bed side manners.

Haha, yeah seriously. A friend of mine got a 40. His uGPA was crap though because he wanted to be spec ops I shit you not. He decided he wanted to be a field surgeon towards the end of college and obliterated everything from orgo to the MCAT.

I got a 30, got pissed, studied my ass off, and got a 34 on the retest. I was more than happy with that!

I would add that I'd rather not be remembered as either of those things. 40 mcat guy kinda sounds pejorative as well!

Geez, a 40? That's crazy. That low GPA is going to hurt him though.

30 is good, but 34 is much more competitive, good job!

Haha all this about a tie. RTC, wear what you'll be comfortable with and I can continue to help you via PM.

Tiny shoulders for a 44R, I think it would have fit me and I wear a 38-40.

He got into the armed forces med school in DC and he's kicking ass there. He'll be fine. Probably end up doing trauma surg or something like that.

And yeah, I'll stop with this offshoot convo now haha.

Larger guys, get at me - Billy Reid Wharf Coat size XL at one of the trade in shops yesterday. Moving to Miami in three months or I would be more upset that this isn't a small...
