1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    Wuss!!

Kidding... Last year on New Years Day, I ran a Half Marathon in Saint Paul, MN in sub-zero weather, so I know a bit of what you Midwest runners have to deal with this time of year! At least for me, I got to hop on a plane back to California later in the day!

Hawaii? If so: Never been, would like to someday...if only to cross it off the list as one of the 4 or 5 states I haven't set foot in yet...AND hit some old-school bars / island joints / spam & eggs.

Out of towners: any noteworthy thrifting / antique malling / flea marketing in Las Vegas? I've been to the outlets; looking for real thrifts, accessible by bus from downtown / Fremont. Aside from dumpster diving behind Wayne Newton's compound, I mean... I also collect old school Vegas stuff like matchbooks (feature / front-strike), vintage motel room keys and ephemera, stuff related to the La Concha Motel, old motel/hotel/casino ashtrays especially octagonal Safex ashtrays, and cool / old / weird artifacts & souvenirs. If you know of any shops I need to hit, please let me know!

I'm still trying to figure out if it'd be worth it to leave the house on Monday....

In that caee you'll want to go to Oahu. Watch the surfers at Waikiki and Diamond Head, grab a drink at Duke's and then head up to the North Shore for the big surf if you go the right time of the year.

But if you want to see real spewing lava, the Big Island is the place.

Seconded. The wife and I hiked Diamondhead on our first day. Wandered the island for a week (Hanauma Bay is pretty awesome too) and can't wait to go back.

I used to live in Hawaii. Depends on what you want to enjoy. Turtle Bay used to be a small beach that had turtles and you could watch turtle eggs hatching. This was 10 years ago, though. I hear they've been building the tourism hard so it may be gone. Try and look it up and ask locals. Locals there are hateful though. Tourists are judged by the worst and the worst are pretty fucking sucky.

I recommend Oahu. Go snorkeling, see the reefs. Watch the Pro Bowl if you can. Fucking beautiful place to visit, kinda sucky to live in.

Turtle beach is still the place to see turtles on Oahu...I actually got bitten on the toe by one a few years ago while snorkelling...mistook my foot for seaweed in the murky water. On the BI you see turtles basking everywhere.

I'll be in Charlottesville this weekend, driving up from Atlanta on Friday. I was just going to hit the GW, SA, etc., unless there's a place that's not to be missed.

If you've never been, I highly recommend taking some time to visit Montecello. Totally worth it. Providing they aren't getting hammered by the snow storm tomorrow.

If they get hammered tomorrow, we aren't going. On weather.com, it looked like VA is going to miss the weather.

We were there for our honeymoon in 2010, then for the Ultraman World Championships in 2012 (think Ironman, but longer and stupider). The halfway mark on the run course was about where that picture was taken.

Perhaps I'll add Montecello to my list of things to check out in June...

So apparently my roommate is kicking my ass thrifting back west... he found a pure cashmere St. Andrews suit. Pics when I get back on Sunday!
